Mets Minor League Games - 5-21-15

A come-from-behind win, a come-from-behind loss, a browbeating, and a pitching gem last night.

Minor League Player of The Night - Casey Meisner, doing his best impression of Jake deGrom. Awesome.

Honorable Mention - Dillon Gee with a rehab start almost as good as Casey Meisner's- and that's a compliment.

AAA - Las Vegas - (27-14) 11 - OKC (26-13) 6

LHSP Steven Matz - see below.

Steve Matz is human.  He rarely gives up homers (13 in 326 career innings coming in), but surrendered back-to-back homers in the first inning.  One was to major league veteran Chris Heisey.

Vegas responded to that 3 spot with a Conrad 3 run shot in the first and a 2 run jack by Danny Muno. The hitters were happy to be back in Vegas and were not done, adding two more 3 run outbursts.

In all, Matz gave up 6 runs (4 earned) in 6.1 IP. 1 BB, 8 H, 7 K.  His worst, against a very tough opponent, was really not so bad. Jake's bad start was followed by a payback start. Let's see Matz do likewise. Because we know he can.

    2B Danny Muno - 2-3, BB, HR, 2 RBI, .287.

   P Steve Matz - 1-3, 2 R, .294

Danny Muno always accelerates starting in the 2nd half of May. Wind him up, watch him go.  Steve Matz wants to hit in the majors. Matz and his relievers struck out 12 Dodgers.

AA - Harrisburg (17-22) 9  -  Binghamton (22-18) 2

    RHSP Luis Cessa -  4.1-IP, 10-H, 5-R, 2-K, 2-BB, 3.58

    3B Dustin Lawley -  2-4, 1-R, double, .248

Cessa has worked his way off Brennan's Top 10 list with this one. Bullpen didn't help...Kolarek's fine relief streak ended with a 3 run inning.  4 errors. 5 hits.  Ugly in multiple respects.  Tomorrow's's another day.

A+ - Dunedin (19-22) 3  -  St. Lucie (18-23) 2

    RHSP Dillon Gee - 6.1-IP, 3-H, 0-R, 5-K, 0-BB, 0.87

   RHRP Vic Black -  0.2-IP, 2-H, 1-R, 0-K, 0-BB, 7.36

    3B Phillip Evans -  1-4, triple, 1-RBI, .258

Dillon was terrific. Black still unimpressive, and Hepple coughed it up with 2 in the 9th.  Quiet offensive night, but Dom Smith doubled again, his 8th. He is rolling.

A - Savannah (17-22) 2  -  Rome (17-22) 0

    RHSP Casey Meisner -  7.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 10-K, 3-BB, 1.93

    LHRP Ben Griset - 1.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 3-K, 1-BB, 1.80

    LHRP David Roseboom - 1.0-IP, 0-H, 0-R, 2-K, 0-BB, 1.77

Jake Meisner, or is it Casey deGrom.  Hard to tell the difference. What an overpowering performance by Meisner. He, Griset, and Roseboom struck out 15 Romans.  Augustus Caesar was not happy.

GOAT: BINGHAMTON - BAD TEAM EFFORT.

After 1 double in his first 22 games, Smith has 7 doubles in his last 10 games. A great sign.
