5/29/15

Mets Minor League Games - 5-28-15

Only 10 runs in the 4 games, but 2 excellently pitched games lead to 2 wins.
Minor League Player of The Night - Casey Delgado, with the win in his terrific relief debut with the Gnats.

Honorable Mention - Luis Cessa, Alex Castellanos, and Jeff McNeil all had jim-dandy nights.

AAA - Colorado Springs (18-28) 8  -  Las Vegas (29-19)  3

    RHSP Matt Bowman -  6.0-I, 7-H, 5-R, 3-K, 1-BB, 6.85

    CF Alex Castellanos  -  2-4, 2-R, double, 10th HR, 2-RBI, .284

    LHRP Scott Rice  -  1.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 1-K, 0-BB, 1.29

Maybe Castellanos' slump is over, as he raises his extra base hit total to 24 with his 14th double and 10th homer.   Matt Reynolds joined the rest of the guys who've stopped hitting, with a 3 strikeout 0-4 game.

Matt Bowman and Tyler Pill have been the twins of pain this year, with Bowman having the better of the ERAs of the 2 at 6.85.  Both are allowing a slew of homers, but regardless, both have pitched poorly in 2015.

AA - Binghamton (25-22) 2  -  Portland (21-27) 0

    RHSP Luis Cessa -  6.0-IP, 3-H, 0-R, 5-K, 0-BB, 3.09

    SS Gavin Cecchini  -  3-4, double, .298

    RHRP Paul Sewald  -  1.0-IP, 2-H, 0-R, 1-K, 0-BB, 1.52

Aderlin Rodriguez drove in the games's only 2 runs.  Cessa is pulling ahead of Ynoa as the best remaining minor league pitcher from Brooklyn's class of 2012...
..Robles already having made the Big Show.

Cecchini continues to impress greatly with the stick this year.

A+ - Lakeland (23-23) 4  -  St. Lucie (22-25) 3

     RHSP Rob Whelan -  4.2-IP, 6-H, 3-R, 4-K, 3-BB, 2.72

Mack - Ernest Dove went to the game last and will post up a report  at 10am on Whelan's killer hook. It's still too early to project how far Whelan can go but he sure looks like a potential back-end starter that will be ready on opening day 2018.

This was Whelan's 8th start this season for St. Lucie and follows Robert Gsellman's promotion to Binghamton. My guess is Gsellman's promotion will slow down Whelan's move to New York State until mid or late June.

    DH Travis d'Arnaud -  0-3, .000

    1B Dominic Smith -  2-5, 1-R, double, .250

McNeil continues his incredible play with 2 hits and 2 walks. Climbing to .352.  Rosario's 2 hits up him to .277, and Colton Plaia's 2 hits jump him to .306.  Dominic Smith went from comatose to doubles machine.  Another month like the last 18 games and he'll be ripe for promotion too.

Michael Conforto goes 0-5 in the close loss. Hitting .257.309/.376 in May.

A - Savannah - (22-25) 2  -  Charleston (23-24) 1

    RHSP Ricky Knapp - 5.0-I, 4-H, 1-R, 7-K, 1-BB, 1.80

    RHRP Casey Delgado 4.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 7-K,3-BB, 0.00

    SS Jean Rodriguez -  2-4, triple, .290

Walk off homer by struggling Jon Leroux. Boy, that's got to feel good.  Great pitching by Knapp and Delgado, the winner in his debut, as they combined for 14 Ks.

GOAT: Last night Tyler Pill and tonight his fellow starter Matt Bowman. Two peas of a pod.
