5/19/15

Mets Minor League Games - 5-18-15

Three of the 4 teams played, all 3 scored 4 runs, two of the 3 won. Irrefutable proof that if you score at least 4 runs every game, you will win 2/3 of them.

Minor League Player of The Night - Robert Gsellman, with yet another excellent outing, lowering his ERA to 1.43 and raising his record to 5-0. He is one to watch closely.

Honorable Mention - Dominic Smith's bat showing progress in having raised his average from .143 to .206 over the past several games.

And the astounding streak of Akeel Morris continues (has recorded 37 outs since last allowing a hit, and 11 more Ks than innings so far)...but see cautionary note below.

AAA - Las Vegas -  (25-14) 4 - Tacoma (17-22) 5

    RHSP Darin Gorski - 5 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 HR, 6.08

Las Vegas has cooled. Down 5-1, the 51s rallied for 3 runs in the 5th to pull within one, then did nothing the rest of the way offensively.

Travis Taijeron had a double and RBI without a single K last night, and hovers at .337. Matt Reynolds' 0-4 slips him to .291.

AA - Binghamton -   no games scheduled. If they had played, they said, they would have scored 4 runs.

A+ - St. Lucie (17-21) 4 - Palm Beach (19-19) 1

    RHSP Robert Gsellman - 7.0-IP, 6-H, 1-R, 5-K, 2-BB, 1.43

    1B Dominic Smith -  2-4, 1-R, double, RBI, .206

    RHCL Akeel Morris - 1.0-IP, 0-H, 0-R, 2-K, 2-BB, 5-SV, 1.89

Mack - Morris still having some control problems at this level... 11 walks in 19 innings so far

A - Savannah (14-22) 4 - Augusta (17-19) 3

    RHSP Scarlyn Reyes -  7.0-IP, 6-H, 3-R, 4-K, 2-BB, 3.56

    LHRP David Roseboom - 1.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 2-K, 0-BB, 1.86

    2B Jonathan Johnson -  2-4, 2-RBI,  .317

Savannah rallied from 3 runs down in a 5 walk inning that saw them score all 4 of their runs In the 5th on a night where they only managed 4 hits.  Roseboom nabs his 2nd save and has been mostly brilliant this season in relief. And the 26 year old Johnson is playing very well.
GOAT: Darin Gorski, who has now allowed 8 homers and 21 walks in 37 AAA innings in 2015. Add goat horns for the Vegas offense, for not scratching out a run in the last 4 innings to tie the game.

Anyone with a take on how good Gsellman is? Future #3 starter caliber? (On a normal team, that is.) He's been outstanding start after start.
