Akron 4 - Binghamton 2

The Binghamton Mets matched a season-low with four hits in their 4-2 loss against the Akron RubberDucks Sunday night at NYSEG Stadium. Josh Rodriguez hit his eighth home run of the year, but the RubberDucks set down the final 11 B-Met batters.

For the second straight game, Akron was able to score before Binghamton could even come to the plate. After singles from the first two batters, Destin Hood drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to right field. It was his second straight game with an RBI.

The lead was short lived, as Rodriguez launched his first home run in 12 games, two batters into the bottom of the first. Binghamton homered in the first inning for the second straight game.
Seth Lugo and Mike Clevinger matched zeros, as Lugo set down nine consecutive RubberDucks from innings two to four. Clevinger, meanwhile, faced the minimum over those three frames as well.

Lugo ran into trouble in the fifth, when Tony Wolters hit his first home run of the year to begin the inning. Lugo then allowed a double and a walk to the next two batters. Two wild pitches later, Akron took a 3-1 lead. They would add on when Yandy Diaz singled to left field with two outs, bringing in the third run of the inning.

Clevinger worked around a two out triple from Eudy Pina in the fifth, and the RubberDucks led 4-1 after five.

Binghamton got back on the board in the sixth, as Gilbert Gomez led off with a double to left. He advanced to third and, for the second straight game, came in to score on a wild pitch.
Trailing 4-2, Bobby Parnell came on to pitch the seventh inning. He worked around a double, as the runner was cut down at the plate on a ground ball to short, and struck out the last batter he faced.

Akron’s bullpen combined with Clevinger to retire the final 11 B-Met batters, as Binghamton was unable to rally for the second straight game.

Lugo (2-2) took the loss, tying season-highs by allowing four runs and seven hits. He walked two batters for the first time this year. Clevinger (2-2) got his first win against Binghamton this season, despite allowing more than one earned run for just the fourth time in nine starts. Jeff Johnson notched his fifth save of the year.

The B-Mets (24-19) wrap up their series against Akron Monday afternoon, with a 1:05 PM first pitch at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton RHP Rainy Lara (3-1, 3.41) gets the ball against RHP (2-2, 1.93). T
