The Chihuahuas defeated the 51s, 9-6, in game two of the three-game series before a Little League Day #2 & Bark in the Park crowd of 7,331 at Cashman Field, which included a total of 153 dogs! Las Vegas is 1-5 on the homestand.
NOTE: Left-hander Jason Vargas will make a Major League rehab assignment start for the 51s in the finale of the seven-game homestand on Monday at 7:05 p.m. on Smith’s Value Menu Monday.
Vargas was signed by the New York Mets as a free agent on February 18, 2018.
El Paso, which improved to 10-1 on the road, built a 5-1 lead after 4 ½ innings.
Catcher Brett Nicholas was 2-for-3, two walks, double, HR, 3 RBI, two runs scored.
Las Vegas right-hander Marcos Molina suffered the loss in his Triple-A debut. He pitched 4.2 innings and allowed 3 hits, 4 runs, walked 4 and struck out 5 on 92 pitches (57 strikes).
