Florida 3 - St. Lucie 1



KISSIMMEE, Fla. (April 17, 2018) – The Florida Fire Frogs held on to beat the St. Lucie Mets 3-1 on Tuesday at Osceola County Stadium.

The Mets drew eight walks in the game, including three in the ninth inning, but couldn’t come up with the big hit to ignite the offense. They went 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 base runners.

The Fire Frogs scored single runs in each of the first three innings to open up a 3-0 lead. Ray-Patrick Didder hit a solo home run in the second inning and laced a RBI single in the third inning.

All the scoring came against Mets starter Justin Dunn, who tossed 4.1 innings. Only two of the runs were earned. He walked three and struck out five.

Florida starter Jeremy Walker blanked the Mets through 4.2 innings. He scattered four singles.

Down 3-0 in the ninth, the Mets loaded the bases on a single and two walks with one out. After Jacob Zanon struck out, Andres Gimenez worked a walk to force home the Mets’ first run.

The Fire Frogs went back to the bullpen and Devan Watts induced a game-ending ground out from Anthony Dimino to preserve the victory.

Ian Strom went 1 for 2 for extend his hitting streak to six games. He also walked twice.

Mets reliever Mike Gibbons tossed three scoreless innings and struck out six.

The Mets (6-5) and Fire Frogs (4-8) continue their series at Osceola County Stadium on Wednesday. First pitch is 6:31 p.m.

Gibbons missed a season, so it was heartening to see a great relief outing from him.
