KISSIMMEE, Fla. (April 19, 2018) – The St. Lucie Mets salvaged their series against the Florida Fire Frogs with a 3-2 win at Osceola County Stadium on Thursday.
Mets starter Gabriel Llanes was the epitome efficient. The right-hander only needed 64 pitches to get through seven innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and did not walk or strike out a batter.
Llanes got a fly out to strand the tying run on second base to end the seventh to finish his night. He won his second straight start.
Reliever Matt Blackham stranded two in scoring position in the eighth to preserve the Mets 3-2 lead.
Matt Pobereyko struck out three batters in the ninth to earn his first save.
The Mets trailed 1-0 through five innings but rallied for all three of their runs in the sixth. Florida reliever Justin Kelly walked the first two batters of the frame. That brought up Andres Gimenez, who poked a game-tying RBI double to left field.
Three batters later Ian Strom hit a RBI sac fly to center field to bring in Jacob Zanon to give the Mets a 2-1 lead. A throw to third base to catch Gimenez tagging up went off the glove of Jordan Rodgers and Gimenez was able to race home on the error to make it 3-1 Mets.
The Mets (7-6) continue their road trip on Friday when they start a three-game series against the Jupiter Hammerheads. First pitch from Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m.
