Palm Beach 6 - St. Lucie 2

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (April 26, 2018) – Austin Warner pitched the Palm Beach Cardinals to a 6-2 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday at First Data Field.

The Mets scored two runs on four hits against Warner in the first inning and forced him to through 25 pitches in the frame. However, Warner would dominate the rest of the way.

Warner tossed seven scoreless innings after the first. He ended up pitching eight innings and allowing two runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out nine.

Andrew Young had a big day at the plate for the Cardinals. He hit a two-out, two-run single off Mets starter Harol Gonzalez in the first inning. In the third, Young broke the 2-2 tie with a RBI double.

Jose Godoy clubbed a two-run homer off Gonzalez in the fourth to increase the Cardinals lead to 5-2.

Young scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to complete the scoring.

Mets reliever Joe Zanghi settled the game down by pitching three scoreless innings. Matt Pobereyko tossed a scoreless ninth to make it four total scoreless innings for the bullpen.

But the Mets offense couldn’t get it going vs. Warner. The Mets threatened in the sixth and seventh innings but the Cardinals ended up turning key double plays to snuff out any Mets rally.

Jacob Zanon went 2 for 4 with a double and a run from the leadoff spot. Desmond Lindsay also collected two hits.

Gonzalez allowed five earned runs in five innings.

For Palm Beach, Young went 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBI.

The Mets (9-11) and Cardinals (11-10) play the second game of their series at First Data Field on Friday
