Good morning.

Yesterday’s results…  DSL-2’s first baseman, Wilmy Valdez, went 3-4, R, 2 doubles, RBI. Batting average up to .250… 2B Felix Valerio went 3-4, 2-R, double, .291 for the DSL-1 team in their victory over the Twins… 3B Todd Frazier homered during the Cyclones’ 4-3 loss against Tri-City… Binghamton SP, Harol Gonzalez, continued his spiraling down… 6-IP, 6-R, 10.17…

Roster Moves – The Mets acquired the service of infielder Jack Reinheimer from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Reinheimer was a 5^th round pick by Seattle in the 2013 draft, out of East Carolina University. He has played all three infield field positions though his prime position is short. His best year was 2017 when he hit .278 in AAA. He returned there this year, as a third baseman, and has hit .237.

Yesterday was a nothing burger.

Most fans expected a bunch of moves yesterday, but let’s remember that players like Wilmer Flores, Devin Meseraco, Jose Bautista, and Jerry Blevens could be waived in August.

I didn’t expect much to happen here. I figured that was very little interest in either Mesoraco and Bautista, but I was hoping the Mets could at least move them for International money.

I guess, in the long run, I’m relieved that the top four Mets starters are still wearing Met uniforms, but I have no solution for 2019.

The thing is… what will the 2019 Mets look like?  We’re doing everything we can to build an infield of 1B Peter Alonso, 2B Jeff McNeil, SS Amed Rosario, and 3B Todd Frazier. Our best two reserves here would be Wilmer Flores and Luis Guillorme. Catcher wise, Tomas Nido would join Kevin Plawecki. In the outfield, Yoenes Cespedes will be on the DL, leaving is Michael Conforto, Brandon Nimmo, Jay Bruce, and Juan Lagares. 

Forget pitching. Is this enough? 

Frankly, I just don’t see it.

And we can’t keep saying that the Mets don’t spend money. They do spend money. They just spend it badly (David Wright, Cespedes, Bruce, etc.).

In my opinion, this team will have to lead the National League in earned run average in order to make the playoffs, Can that happen with the current pen?

Tim Britton – Lyin’ Ricco: Pete Alonso is going to stay in Triple-A, "at least for the time being." Smith would get another shot at 1B before Alonso. – I also read that Jay Bruce is going to get significant time at first when he comes back. Looks like Peter should settle into the dry heat of Nevada.

Michael Baron - I’m not asking the Mets to make trades for the hell of it or to make bad deals. But I look at what Cashman was able to do in acquiring all of that int’l pool $, while getting rid of a lot of extraneous, and I see creativity for the future. Mets could learn a thing or 2 there.

Lastly…

I turned the game off when the Mets went down 7-0 in the first inning. I didn’t look at it again, but I did get a text from Tom Brennan, telling me that Jeff McNeil hit his first professional home run. Good for him. It wasn’t until this morning that I clicked on MLB.com and saw the final score.

I hit 'control, alt, delete', but the same score came up.

Imagine living the rest of your life with the knowledge that you hit your first pro homer in a game you lost by 21 runs?

I also saw that Jose Reyes pitched the last inning, giving up six runs? Is this Reyes’s swan song? I think not.

I haven’t checked what our fearless manager said after this game, but it probably was something like ‘I see positive signs in this game’. Positive signs. Drew Smith’s one scoreless inning? The food served by the Nats’ caterer?

I don’t know where to go from here. I’ll write this off as a goofball game, but the Mets may want to consider going to the bottom of the tank for the remainder of this season so we can least get a top five draft pick.
