Paez, Tiberi Homer in 4-1 Win Over Marauders

BRADENTON, Fla. (July 31, 2018) – The St. Lucie Mets defeated the Bradenton Marauders 4-1 on Tuesday at LECOM Park.

Ali Sanchez broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh inning with a RBI single that plated Mike Paez.

Blake Tiberi followed with a two-run homer, his first in the FSL, to put the Mets up 4-1.

Mets starter Joe Cavallaro was excellent over six innings. He gave up just one unearned run while scattering three singles. He struck out nine Marauders and earned his second win.

Trey Cobb tossed two scoreless innings of relief.

Stephen Villines pitched a perfect ninth for his third save. He lowered his ERA to 0.54.

Paez hit a two-out solo home run in the first inning to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. It was Paez’s 10th homer of the year and it extended his hitting streak to 11 games. That is the longest streak for a Mets player this year.

Jared Oliva scored the only run for the Marauders in the bottom of the first inning on a passed ball.

Paez started the rally in the seventh by reaching on an error.

Bradenton starter James Marvel limited the Mets to just the Paez homer over six innings. Reliever Adam Oller allowed three runs in two innings to suffer the loss.

Sanchez went 2 for 4.

Michael Paez has not gotten much press from this site this year, but he is hitting quite well for St Lucie, and had a strong July with the bat.
