Tom Brennan - LAST 30 GAMES AS AN INDICATOR

Tom Brennan - LAST 30 GAMES AS  AN INDICATOR

Thirty games is a nice stretch of play to gauge an offensive player by at this time of the year, particularly a young player.

At midweek, how were young Mets hitters doing over their last 30 games?

Doing quite well indeed.

Better than "quite well", actually.

Just my opinion.  You be the judge:

Amed Rosario: .306/.326/.452, 19 runs scored and 7 steals. SURGING!

Brandon Nimmo: .344/.479/.604. SHAZZAM!

Michael Conforto: .241/.295/.527, with 9 HRs and 28 RBIs.  PRODUCTIVE POWER!

Jeff McNeil: .377/.421/.528, 18 runs scored. SURREAL!

These 4 young offensive players, coupled with the starting rotation Big 4 (Jake, Zack, Thor, Matz) give the Mets quite a core to build around.

Don't you agree, Judge?

If you disagree, you have 30 days to respond.

Sometimes 15 games is enough to make a positive assessment.

For instance, Bruce in his last 15 games is hitting .280 with 5 HR, 16 RBI.

Seems like (while his 2018 is still a wash out) he is back to being Bruce. Which is good for 2019.

I hope Bruce keeps it up so we can find some gullible taker for his salary in the off-season. With Frazier the only right handed long ball threat with Cespedes on the shelf and Alonso in witness protection I'd like to see them get another right handed slugger (or speedster who can play CF).

Tom, I’m sorry but 30 games is not enough of a sample. I can recall some rookie on the Tigers, Wilson, that hit 15 homeruns in April. He was all the craze, but was in the minors by June. Also, remember Puig’s first and pretty much second year? Fizzled. Closer to home, how about Lagares’ first year? My point is the league makes adjustments to you, and makes your life harder. You need to make content adjustment to reclaim your success, but not all players can.

It is hoped the Mets players can continue focusing on their own individual games. For example:
1. While I am completely against keeping Bruce around, if his new found ability to go to left field can be used all year, I would be very happy to have him in left field next year until Yoenis rides to the rescue.
2. Go look at Frazier’s early career stats. Hit in the .280 range with power. However, he won the homerun contest at Cincy and hasn’t stopped swinging from his heels since then. He’s a waste.
3. Nimmo has had ups and downs, coinciding with his getting hit by pitches and being dinged for periods of time. I like his aggressiveness but I’d prefer to have him healthy for those longer periods of time he’s trying to recover from his arms and hands constantly injured from the HBP.
4. It’s good to see Rosario improving his plate discipline, but he has Juan Lagares disease about laying off sliders away. If he. Any recognize better than Lagares does, he will become another Lagares.

Just some examples of how a few players can improve their own game.

Hey Texas Gus, 30 days is a short span, but if it is not early in a season, it becomes a lot more meaningful. Eric Campbell started out well at the start but hit an early wall. And never passed it.

Bruce seems to be adjusting to reality - good.

Frazier hitting .210 the past two years? Hurry up, Gimenez.

Rosario is showing enough improvement to make me hope for more.

Nimmo I like a lot. Very excerpted about his upcoming 2019.

Last off seasons additions have been brutal with really only Bruce as a player who seems to give a s++t. Will there ever be a year where we're not hoping/praying for bad contracts to end and for me the Frazier contract is the biggest bust for at least Bruce holds himself accountable and there is hope next year he can return to 30+ HR and 90+ RBI. Keep the pitching intact and hope for a 2015 like YC return in July/Aug and bring in a good GM who'll strengthen the BP and just maybe we'll have a real shot next year.
