Tommy White
Mack-s spin -
O had White as my number one first baseman pick until that Polar Bear came along from South Carolina.
Still, White will go in either the 2nd or 3rd round this draft.

Very loose and fun attitude, Tommy is going to be a fan favorite wherever he ends up. A 3B by trade but very likely may see his future at 1B. But is fairly athletic and decent enough with the glove, to give him a chance to stick at 3B with some improvements. Let’s forget the glove for now. This dude lives and dies from the bat and offensive potential. One of the most consistent Hit tools that grades as Above-average with likely chance at Plus if he adapts to plus secondaries moving forward. A patient, prostyle approach at the plate that helps him drive the ball to all fields, and stay inside the ball with relative ease. A knack for finding barrels on balls all over the strike zone. He has some good pop as well with Above-Average Power. Not a ton of speed, but again does show some athleticism on the field. An exciting bat that is a fit in the middle of any lineup. Similar to Vlad Guerrero Jr.

2021 Tommy White. White with a shot down the left field line to win the game via 10 run rule walk-off. Kept his hands inside very nicely.

40. Tommy White, 3B, IMG Academy, Bradenton, Fla.
One of the bigger sluggers in the 2021 class, White likely will end up at first base eventually as he's already 6'1", 220 pounds, but his power profile gives the NC State signee and current third baseman a shot to be productive enough at the plate to make such a move work.

If you’re into hitters who swing with intent, look no further than IMG Academy third baseman Tommy White. The 6-foot-2, 240-pound North Carolina State commit leaves nothing on the table at the plate, consistently trying to do damage with every swing. White projects for plus power to all fields, and despite an extremely aggressive approach, scouts do believe he has good natural hitting ability, and some feel for the barrel. Scouts like the swing path and his mechanics at the plate and have pointed out that he tracks offspeed and breaking stuff well. White stood out early in the summer at the inaugural Ultimate Baseball Championship with Florida Burn and has some similarities to Red Sox 2020 third-rounder Blaze Jordan, as a right-right prep third baseman who might be better off at first base long term. While White does have solid hands at third base, scouts think his slower-twitch actions, well below-average speed and large frame will inevitably push him to first. That’s a difficult profile out of high school and adds plenty of pressure to his bat, but when he’s on it’s an impact, middle-of-the-order sort of offensive profile.

Travel Team: Florida Burn
Commit: North Carolina State
Performance: 6-for-13, 3 2B, 3 BB, 3 K
The MVP of the event, White carried the burden for Florida Burn offensively on the way to the team’s championship. From a scouting perspective, it’s clear White can hit, but he’s going to be a challenge for teams to figure out.
A big-bodied third baseman, White is listed at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds and will need to put in plenty of work on his body and improve his defensive ability to stick at the hot corner. Many scouts already seem convinced he’ll have to move to first base.
But the bat is loud, and White leaves nothing on the table in the batter’s box. He takes big, aggressive swings and constantly tries to do damage. Even with the violence and intent he swings with, scouts think the swing path and his overall mechanics are solid. It’ll be a difficult profile as a right-right, likely first base profile out of high school and for that reason some teams might prefer to see him prove it at NC State. At the same time, he’ll be seen frequently with IMG Academy and have all the opportunity to show his bat is special enough to take a chance.

Tommy White might be the best pure prep hitter in the 2021 class. It's a big, 220 pound frame that likely projects to first base at the next level. The power is substantial to all fields and it lacks the swing and miss a lot of bruising sluggers often possess. The coil he gets, the loading mechanisms in his hands, and even the weight re-distribution in his stride are eerily similar to Bryce Harper, but from the right side.

Tommy White is a 2021 3B/1B with a 6-2 220 lb. frame from St. Pete Beach, FL who attends IMG Academy. Big and strong build, seems firmer and more athletic since last seen. Right handed hitter, has outstanding rhythm at the plate in his swing, quick and explosive hands, ball comes off the barrel hard and often, line drive swing plane at present but flashes big lift and power at times. Highest level hitter with some projection remaining as he further learns his swing and how to adjust to different pitches. 7.36 runner, is light on his feet for his size and moves well to the ball, soft hands, has playable arm strength and can drop his slot with good effect and make athletic plays. One of the best bats in the 2021 class
Tommy White, 3B, IMG Academy
Tommy White looks like he hits dingers. If that doesn’t immediately make sense, it probably will when you take a look at him in the box. A rotund 6’2”, 240 lbs., it goes without saying that there’s not much projection left in White’s body, but that isn’t an issue when you have now power like his. White’s raw power is big, but on top of that he takes absolutely massive cuts.
The immediate reaction of many is concern around the hit tool, and while that’s fair, White does show some really impressive feel for the barrel. It’s probably true that he’ll strike out at an above average clip, but if there’s one thing you can be confident in with White it’s that the quality of contact should be about as good as it gets.
The idea of White playing third base long term is probably a pipe dream unless his body changes, but you’re drafting this kid for his bat, and if he hits like his biggest supporters expect, it’ll play at DH. His power rates in plus-plus territory, and almost all of it projects as usable pop. With the ability to mishit balls for extra bases and drive pitches into the seats the other way, White has all the makings of a potential cleanup slugger if he’s able to keep things in enough control to make contact. He’s almost like an incredibly large Keston Hiura in the way he approaches hitting, and I like his odds.

Funny - White grew a lot from date to date. Can never have enough first basemen.
