I guess Cano and Davis, if both are still here. Dom would be good there, but if you're paying Cano $20 million, is Dom still a fit?

Cano would be paid off.
I would first give Dom a chance
Past that, I alternate Pete and Dom
Cano? How about helping out Big Pete and replacing Conforto with Schwarzenegger and letting him DH?
If you are going to be allowed an extra hitter, I want the best hitter that I can get. I understand the thinking of using the DH spot to rest your players, but I would rather have a David Ortiz slugger than an average hitter, that means Castellanos as he sucks everywhere except the batter’s box.
On the Mets presently, JD Davis and his below average defense are the best fit there on the Mets. If Davis can get up to acceptable defense, then would be Alonso’s turn but his defense isn’t a problem. If I have those two there playing acceptably on the field, then get me a butcher like Gary Sanchez that is a true butcher but kills the ball, and tell him to not worry about even buying a glove and just concentrate on hitting. I think he’s still a good hitter that is messed up in the head.
This is an interesting question that has been on my mind for quite a while. I have not really answered it to my liking yet. Part of me says Robinson Cano, some of me says Jeff McNeil, and another part of me says it should be a rotating role with six or seven guys giving them sort breathers from the field once a week.
Perhaps there will be guys with little nagging soreness that doesn't affect their hitting, but might affect throwing that could be slotted in for a few days.
I am struggling with how I'd put this team together for 2022. My biggest issue is that if I am allowed to have a favorite player, it is still Dom Smith. I'd still like to see Smith playing first base, but that is probably a heart thing and not a head thing for me. I have often wondered whether Alonso could play as good a left field as Dom, but I think that train has left the station.
Cancel that thought on signing Castellanos. For some reason, I thought he was a free agent.
J.D. Davis would be a low cost option to hit for a decent average with power and keeping him from harming the club on the field attempting poorly to play defense. Smith has some trade value assuming that Pete Alonso is locked in at 1st based. Cano wouldn't be a bad option there either if they keep him around and insert either McNeil or a re-signed Javy Baez at 2nd.
I can't see Cano being let go and be on the hook for that much time and money. So, that being said...Cano. He can't field but can still hit (I think).
