OPEN THREAD - 2024

We need to discuss this.

Late 2022 will begin a time period that many of our top prospects will graduate to Queens

Ronny Mauricio, Mark Vientos, Brett Baty, Carlos Cortes,  Francisco Alvarez,  Matt Allan, J.T. Ginn

The question is simple (sort of).

Who will be in the starting 2024 lineup, where where will they play,  if not starting, why, and who gets traded away?

I would only trade from among them for a really good talent not close to free agency, like a Bryan Reynolds. If not, I think they all stay, and and all play prominent roles, by 2024. It would’ve exciting to watch. DON’T trade the pitchers or Alvarez under ANY circumstances, though.

I remember as a child playing games and when things didn't work out like I'd like I'd say "do over do over" so I ask myself now how many trades/transactions/free agent moves have the Mets done over the last 4 years where you'd now say "Do Over". I think alot for me: Lindor, CC, McCann't, Cano, Diaz, Baez, Almora, Ramos Hamilton, Betances, Lowrie, Wacha, Porcello, Frazier, Gomez, Broxton, Alterr, Gonzales and well you get the idea so for me lets keep the kids we have and let em develope because I'd much rather live through the growing pains with our guys than our miserable past of bad deals and signings.

I think Mauricio will be a good ball player, but I thought Rosario would be one too! I don’t want to see any of the prospects traded. Sign Baez, get a hitter to help Big Pete, and trade some of Smith,McNeil,Davis. Let Conforto and Noah walk, use the 40 million to sign some FAs.

Anonymous wisdom, indeed.

This is a bit off topic, but a question for Anon .. use the 40 million to sign some FAs. Who do you have in mind that are better than Conforto and Thor (or who will be a better value?

Now as far as 2024 goes, that seems a long way off. This will be rather random, but . . .

I am hoping both Allan and Ginn make it by then.

I would like to keep Baty. I think he can be a third baseman for a long time.

I am not as sold on Vientos. There is no question that he can hit, but is he another one of those slow guys that doesn't have a very good position?

I like Khalil Lee. I think by 2024 he can be a very good major league outfielder in Queens.

I am thinking that they will catch lightning in a bottle (or a draught) in the upcoming 2022 draft and will draft someone at either #11 or #14 that will be ready for MLB in 2024. I am guessing pitcher.

Francisco Lindor will be playing shortstop.

Javy Baez will be playing second base

Pete Alonso will be playing first base

Really hoping Alex Ramirez starts moving through the system quickly and can make it in 2024.

Francisco Alvarez will be the catcher.

Brandon Nimmo? He'll be a F/A after 2022, but for some reason, I can see him signing an extension and will still be with the club.

One of Adam Oller or Josh Walker will be on the hill.

Tylor Megill will still be pitching well.

Jake? yeah, maybe. He won't be older than Max is now, so ...

And just from as a fan with 'heart more than head' favorites, I really hope Dom is still around.

I do like Anon's ideas on the various threads about finding a top left-hander to fill out the staff. I don't have that pitcher identified yet. John Means is on my list.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure we will not be seeing Kevin Pillar, Jonathan Villar, or Jered Eickhoff

I do believe that Mauricio is their #1 trade chip, as Mack said last week. That’s why despite the good range, they aren’t taking him off SS. He would be a very good CF. Rosario didn’t have the instincts Mauricio shows when he ranges on pop flies.

I expect Vientos at 1B and Nimmo in LF. Draw your own conclusions. Baty at 3B, Lee in RF and Ramirez in CF. I expect Alvarez behind the plate and Jose Ramirez to be the 2B.

R 1969, no Jerad Eickhoff?? I'll be depressed all winter. No...not really.

Gus, any trades of these guys have to be worthwhile. If Mauricio turns into a 30 HR a year guy, what is that worth? No stupid trades of any of these guys, please.

Rosario is a good player.

Rosario has had good offensive seasons in 2019 and 2021 and a miserable one in 2020 - which shows that a McNeil and JD Davis could bounce back big in 2022 similar to how Rosario bounced back in 2021.

Closer to home, let's hope Lindor bounces back bigly.

Xx I like Schawber and Bryant as the bat to help Pete. I like McCutcheon, Joc Peterson,,Escobar as 2nd tier bats. E Rodriguez,Gray,Kikuchi,Grienke would be starters I’d look at.
