Are you prepared to pay him between $20 and $25 million per year? Let me put it another way. Let's suppose you looked at his stats that he'd accumulated for another team and he was on the open market. Would you be pining as strongly to have him on the Mets in a 6+ year contract for that kind of money per year? He could very well bounce back to what he once was -- Kevin McReynolds -- but to me that's not a good value to tie up that much payroll for that long on someone who is good but not great.
Khalil Lee has had very promising numbers in AAA. .450
OBP. Maybe he takes over in a starting OF slot. Big gamble, though, to move him right into a starting OF slot.

Also, is Alex Ramirez a huge star in the making? Very young, but he could surge in 2022. Then you don't want to crowd out the outfield. Also, Carlos Cortes may be ready - he got screwed in the second half between injuries and COVID, so not being on the ground, I do not know if he is ready. Pillar? Move the fences in, get another good year out of him.
For 2022, I list all the outfielders available and in house, and see if Conforto is the best deal.
Lots of money has to be spent in 2022.
My starting OF in 2022, left to right, would be Nimmo, Lee, Conforto with a QO.
I agree with what Mack wrote. We also can have Cortes, mangum and Rincon at Syracuse and see how they do. If someone gets injured or is not doing well try one of these players.
I rather not see Lee in A Mets uniform.conforto is the best option for next year. At best all of the names mentioned are third or fourth outfielders.

Love MC, but unless Uncle Steve wants to tie up years and dollars needed elsewhere, we have McNeil to slot into RF w Cano as LH DH and hopefully Beaz at 2B. Lee looks like a great prospect, and Dom plays a decent LF. Nimmo played a very decent CF this year.
Just saying that LH OF isn't the biggest need, but still love MC. Starting pitching please. Stro would be great.
Who would you rather have Conforto or Castalanos,Schawber, Bryant or even Marte? It’s a no brained! No QO for Conforto!

My take:
Offer Conforto a Q.O. There are two possible outcomes. A miniscule (<.01%) chance he accepts is one and no chance he accepts is the other. (Boras is his agent at the moment). The Mets will not stay in his market. I can see this one playing out like the Wheeler "crickets" story.
SO. Conforto signs with Seattle and the Mets trade for Mitch Haniger to play right field for 2022. He will be a free agent after one year, so it will give them a full year to have Lee be either the 4th/5th guy (depending on the Pillar situation) OR have him get consistent at-bats for a while in Syracuse until Nimmo's annual trek to the IL. Then they'll know if he can be the regular in 2023.
To answer Anonymous post of an hour or so ago, who would I most like to have from that group of five? In order Conforto, Bryant, Marte, Castellanos, Schwarber.
A Q.O. for Conforto is a must. There is very little chance he will accept it, unless he does it completely on his own, in which case I can see him dumping Boras as his agent. But not happening. SO .. you can't let him walk without the compensation pick. Even if he did accept, having him in RF is not a bad option for $20M.
Castellanos is a non-starter because if he does opt out, Cincy will do the same thing - slap a Q.O. on him. This is not the year to get another poor fielding outfielder who will cost them a draft pick + the same money as they could have paid Conforto. In my opinion Conforto > Castellanos as a total player.
Schwarber is even lower on the list. One dimensional and extremely streaky. It is unfortunate that he found his extremely hot streak when playing the Mets this year, but that was an outlier.
I see Conforto signing with a team like the Reds. They could use an outfielder. Aquino and Akiyama don't cut it, and Conforto could be a beast hitting homers to right in Great American.
My take is to move Nimmo to right and get a good CF. I might take a chance on a PED user in Laureano. The guy can flat out play defense. Don t know how he'll hit post-steroids.

Conforto hit his second BOMB of the week last night. Did it take him until late September to become Michael Conforto again?
24 RBIs in his last 30 games, after being abysmal all season prior to that.
QO Conforto. If he accepts, great. If he doesn’t, then it depends on what happened with Nimmo, who is also a free agent next year. I would sign Conforto to three years and not depend on Vientos, Lee and McNeil. McNeil has a bad arm, so even third base is a problem much less the outfield. Conforto is a good player but not a star, and I believe he’s better than McNeil.
Is fox, Mauricio, and Cortes have to be added to 40 man roster this winter. So, either way Vientos is in the picture.
Is fox = Vientos.

I just want to remind everyone that Kahlil Lee went 1-for-18 this year in the majors. That's an .056 batting average. He struck out 13 times in 18 at-bats. He is NOT ready for a full MLB season. Conforto was pulled up very early because of his sweet swing and success at lower levels in the minors - and now ~6 years later he has a disappointing .254 average and it is a struggle to justify one year at $18M to see if he can regain his potential before giving up and letting him jump to another team.
I think that Conforto is worth a QO because he is very strong defensively, is a great clubhouse presence, and maybe he can start hitting again if he stops thinking too much. But realistically, he is going to give the Mets another year of .250-.275 and 60-70 RBI as they wait for Vientos or Lee on Rincon to mature.
