Mack’s Daily Minors Recap - 9-7-2022 Games

AAA - 

The Syracuse Mets dropped their sixth game in a row on Wednesday night, falling to the Rochester Red Wings, 15-8, at NBT Bank Stadium. 

In the bottom of the third, Syracuse (53-78) amazingly scoring eight runs of their own to take an 8-5 lead into the fourth inning. The Mets sent 11 men to the plate in the eight-run frame, buoyed by two gigantic hits. First, with the bases loaded and one out, Jake Mangum came to the plate. He promptly unloaded the bases, lacing a three-run double to the left-center field wall to make it a 5-3 game. Later on in the inning, after a wild pitch scored Mangum to make it a 5-4 game, the bases were loaded with two outs. Nick Dini then brought everybody home, launching a no-doubt grand slam that sailed over the right-field wall with ease. His ninth home run of the season made it an 8-5 Syracuse game in the blink of an eye. 

By the end of the ballgame, every single Rochester Red Wing reached base at least once. Eight different Rochester players scored runs with six players scoring at least two runs. The Mets also had a balanced attack, as all but one starter reached base at least once by the end of the night.    

New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill made his first Major League rehab appearance with Syracuse. Megill pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning that included a strikeout. In three rehab appearances (two with Binghamton and one with Syracuse), Megill has thrown three perfect innings, striking out seven of the nine batters he has faced.

AA - Prospect stats -

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (23-34, 51-75) fell to the Portland Sea Dogs 4-2 on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field, splitting the first two games of the series.

The Rumble Ponies struck first in the second for a third straight game, as Luke Ritter walked to leadoff the frame. After Ritter stole second, Hayden Senger delivered a two-out RBI single to left to put the Ponies up 1-0.

In the eighth, the Ponies would pull to within two on a solo homer by Carlos Cortes over the right field wall, his ninth of the year.

David Griffin did not allow a hit over five scoreless innings in the start for Binghamton, with five walks and four strikeouts.

Postgame Notes: Senger finished 2-3 with an RBI and reached base three times, it’s his third straight multi-hit game and he has three RBI over that span...Portland was held to three hits for the game.

 For the second straight game, Brooklyn fell behind early but was able to rally for a victory as they defeated the Winston-Salem Dash on Wednesday afternoon by the score of 5-2. A five-run, two-out rally in the top of the third provided all the offense Brooklyn would need, with back-to-back home runs from JT Schwartz and Jose Peroza capping the offensive outburst.

Brooklyn starter Luis Moreno would toss 7.0 innings, allowing just one more hit after the first three batters of the game singled, while walking one and striking out five.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn exploded in the top of the third to jump in front. With William Lugo on third, and two outs, Matt Rudick got things started with a triple into the right centerfield gap to trim the Brooklyn deficit to 2-1. Alex Ramirez followed with a booming double off the wall in centerfield to push Rudick home and knot things up at 2-2. JT Schwartz was next up for the ‘Clones and he drilled a homer into the right-center field bleachers to give Brooklyn a 4-2 lead. Two pitches later, Jose Peroza went yard for an opposite field home run as the back-to-back jacks gave Brooklyn a 5-2 lead.

The Cyclones victory lowered their Magic Number for clinching the Northern Division and advancing to the South Atlantic League Playoffs to three, with Hudson Valley scheduled to play in Wilmington Wednesday evening.

Wednesday’s game between the St. Lucie Mets and Fort Myers Mighty Mussels at Hammond Stadium was postponed due to inclement weather.

The teams will make up the game as part of a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The current series at Fort Myers the final series of the regular season. The Mets will face the Palm Beach Cardinals next week in the best-of-three FSL East Division playoff series.

Game 1 is Tuesday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Game 2 is next Thursday at Clover Park at 6:10 p.m. If necessary, a deciding game 3 will be next Friday at 6:10 p.m. at Clover Park.
