Tom Brennan - Hits on Balls Put in Play to Infield and to Outfield

Hits in every way imaginable, both short and long, are Jeff's M.O.

Baseball Reference has lots of interesting stats.  Brennan loves stats.

How about stats about when a hitter makes contact and the ball stays in the infield?

Jeff McNeil craves hits, and runs like a banshee when he grounds a ball to the infield.

This year, he recently was 26 for 172 (.152), a very impressive number, when you think about it.

When he doesn't beat out close ones, he sometimes screams like a banshee.

Works for me.

Compare sprinting Jeff to fellow sprinting banshee Brandon Nimmo:

26 for 221 on infield balls (.118).  Good, but not like Jeffy.

Daniel "Tugboat" Vogelbach?

A mere 5 for 116 (.043), which is not surprising, unless you are surprised that he has had as many as 5 infield hits in all of 2022.  Basically, it averages out to a once-a-month surprise from Herr Vogelbach.

OK, so that takes care of hits in the infield.

But, when the ball actually grounds through the infield to the outfield, or reaches the outfield (or beyond) by air?

Wild, gaudy stats.

Nimmo is hitting .559 on such balls.

Vogelbach .565.

And McNeil .515.

Morale of the story?

Reach the outfield with your batted balls as often as possible, and good things happen - lots of good things.  And when you don't, run like a banshee, and you too could become Jeff McNeil.

P.S.

I like stats like Alonso (121 RBIs) and Lindor (99 RBIs).  A lot.

I don't like stats like Ruf (2 for his last 31) and Vientos (1 for 18), as 3 for 49 from your two platooners against lefties is frankly absurd, don't you think?

Meanwhile, Alvarez in AAA had a single, double, and HR in 3 at bats and is 10 for his last 23 with 3 bombs in hiss post-IL renaissance.

Maybe....just maybe....a change from "3 for 49" to "the wunderkind" is worth considering?

P.P.S. Braves win, too.  They always win, don't they?

If given a vote, Jeff would be my pick for the 2022 Mets MVP

BRAVES LOSE!!!!! Great after a face plant from our Mets but now we get a breather and on to the left coast. We have to improve RH DH and my pick is Canha when Marte comes back but Alvy would be worth a shot but I just don't see it happening. Overall the FO needs to figure out why when we bring up a hot prospect he goes 1 for 18 .056 Vientos and Baty 7 for 42 .184 and the Bravos get Harris AND Grissom and they both are hitting .306 and collectively have hit 23 HR's and 75 RBI in 136 games WOW. Does not promoting Alvy have anything to do with Service time?
