(FWIW report) I heard good things yesterday about the overall vibe/culture/structure of Mets AA Bingo affiliate amongst players/coaches/staff. Hopefully a good sign of things to come throughout the organization and Mets minor leagues as a system.

Free Agency:
CLICK ON - 2024 MLB free agents: Who are the best non-Shohei Ohtani pitchers available?
Aces
Aaron Nola, RHP, Philadelphia Phillies (31)
Julio Urías, LHP, Los Angeles Dodgers (27)
Nola has combined durability and dominance for half a decade and just delivered another masterful campaign, albeit one where he appeared to run out of gas in his last few postseason starts. Another 200 innings of excellence could realistically make him the next $200 million pitcher.
Urías, who famously debuted at 19, will be one of the youngest premier free-agent starting pitchers ever, which will make him highly attractive to a wide selection of teams. He’s been as good as it gets, run-prevention-wise, over the last few seasons, even if he doesn’t strike out as many batters as you might want from a No. 1 starter.

Trying my best to keep watching Mets games this season. IF they are within 5 games of .500 will they part with prospects as buyers ? Seems like a bad idea.
First, Mack thank you for this post every day. I always look forward to it and it’s the first thing I read everyday for a while now.
Second, I agree with Davis. Showalter’s insistence that every player win a gold glove led to Davis being thrown away after Brodie was able to steal him from the Astros. Davis led the majors in exit velocity last year, but the Mets weren’t going to be patient or put a successful player out there too often. Reminds me of how Collins crapped on Wilmer Flores. At this point, I prefer a young manager like Snitka or the Phillies guy that were both promoted from AAA than a guy with a rep that feels he can walk on water. It was Davis that stole second base on that appeal attempt and got a thumbs up from Showalter.
Third, I do not feel the Mets are out of it. I do think the pitching is not good enough.
Fourth, Davis in 2022 and Cahna in 2023. What’s the difference?
I think the only vulnerable prospect is Vientos
Thank you Gus
I'm glad I won you over
Absolutely nuthin
Davis trashed the org politely, saying players walk on eggshells. Getting rid of JDD was a huge BOO BOO. Stupid beyond belief, really.
Let the right guys play and have fun - lower the pressure gauge.

- well, you spend big, you have a chance of getting a very valuable everyday player. Or you can nickel-and-dime your way to....????
Luis Moreno and Saul Garcia are part of my unranked posse.
Of course, you can keep ranking guys like Junior Santos, who has fanned just 46 in 69 innings despite facing a ton of batters (89 hits, 29 walks) and a 6.26 ERA. Moreno is dancing rings around Junior.
Lastly, had the Mets kept JD Davis instead of the impotent Ruf, they likely win the division last year - and would likely squeeze into a wild card slot this year. Stupidity has consequences.
Tom,
So who is responsible for the Davis trade? Does the GM have to answer for that trade at some point. Did the manager fail to utilize Davis
effectively and does he answer for failure if that is the case?
D-J, I feel both the GM and the manager are culpable...it was collectively a bad mistake.
Davis feels that if he had been left at 3rd base, he'd have hit fine and fielded fine. Instead, we got Ruf, Naquin (only take two without a doctor's advice), Dom Smith, and Slow-glebach. 4 doses of utter mediocrity.
Meanwhile, JDD is playing almost like David Wright in 2023.
Imagine if they kept Davis and played him a lot in 2022, and traded Alonso for boatloads in the off season and put JDD at first?
I thnk JDD 2022 is Vientos 2023. He'll be their next big mistake.
They'll trade him somewhere else and he'll hit 40.
Just 5 errors in 60 games at 3rd base for JDD. And no errors in several OF and 1B games. Everyone was so convinced he could not field.
Tom,
I totally agree. The 2023 draft is our chance to restock our pitching;
the trade deadline July 31 is our opportunity to bring in some young prospects. Time to move on and get it right.
Mack, I have enjoyed the site for years. Even when you get mad at me for disagreeing with you, LOL!
