Morning.
If the season ended today, the Mets would have the 8th pick in the 2024 draft.
Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman)
Steve Cohen and David Stearns haven’t said a word about it (either publicly or to each other) but baseball people are convinced Stearns will be Mets top target this off season (here’s why, and why he may accept)
Gina (@gina_scooter)
If the Mets are gonna insist on not firing Buck then they can’t keep giving him toys like Danny Mendick. There’s absolutely no reason Baty should be platooned in a loss season. Especially not platooned with a career mid minor leaguer
MetsAvenue (@MetsAvenue)
People were laughing at this tweet, but Buck pinch hit for Baty with Mendick due to some analytical garbage. It literally happened in the same game, didn’t even have to wait for tomorrow

New York Mets
Far from a final deadline decision, the Mets revealed a blueprint for what Aug. 1 could look like by paying almost all of Eduardo Escobar’s salary to land two pitching prospects from the Angels last week. New York could sell in a few different ways: It could send out rental pieces like David Robertson and Tommy Pham for smaller returns, it could try to work out a complicated, salary-eating deal for Max Scherzer or Justin Verlander, or it could contemplate a larger-scale teardown that would have been unfathomable at the start of the season. The last option remains difficult to conceive even today, but the first two have to be on the table. In his State of the Mets address Wednesday, owner Steve Cohen said his management team is “preparing for all contingencies,” but if the Mets’ position in the standings doesn’t improve in July he said it’d be “pretty silly” to be buyers.
Unreal

I also want a special mention to relief strikeout machine Paul Gervase, who not only fanned his usual 3 in 2 innings, but no walks, too!
I expect Gervace will finish 3023 in Binghamton
Mack, keep 20 year old righty in St Lucie Saul Garcia in mind for these stats recap.
He did 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 5 Ks last night.
His last 3?
11 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 20 Ks. He did walk 8 in those 11 innings, but his 2023 Ks are 57 in 39 innings.
Blade May be better Hamel, Vasil, Scott, and Stuart. Keeps pitching like that, he should skyrocket.
Stuart and Scott have been the most consistent this season but Blade is by far the most talented pitcher prospect in the chain
But those walks
Cream always rises to the top. Time to promote Blade.
Is Blade another pre-injury Harvey, talent-wise?
You are probably right but Brooklyn starters and blocked by Binghamton starters that are blocked my a myriad amount of meh Syracuse starters
I don't think so.
His sore.arm issue as a college junior.id far past. Actually he came back from that very strong at the end of that college season
Have no idea why he started slow this season. Coaches have baby stepped him in pitch count this season
He may have given up too many hits and runs early on but the strikeouts have always been there
It shouldn't take him a thousand years to get there. 😉
The Tom and Mack Show, must reading!
We're not sorry....
Uncle Albert
I think Tidwell’s toughness will be a factor in his ascent. If he is tough as nails, maybe he’ll blow thru the minors this year, or by mid-2024. The ability to miss bats is a great accelerator.
