Tom Brennan - Temper Your Expectations

Ronny Mauricio

Vet Luke Voit crushing it in Syracuse: 119 at bats, 13 HR, 33 RBI.   Vet Abraham Almonte 11 HR, 26 RBI in 77 Syracuse ABs.  Add together: 196 at bats, 24 HR, 59 RBIs.

Meanwhile, Ronny Mauricio 9 HR, 23 RBI in 161 June and July Syracuse at bats. Not nearly as good.

It seems the INTL League has turned into the PCL, a hitter’s delight with inflated hitting stats.

So, I think people lusting to see Mauricio need to temper their expectations.

And does no team want either of the slugging duo of Voit or Almonte at the deadline?

METS 13-8 IN LAST 21 GAMES

Not bad.

We’re 36-46, now 49-54.

With the next 5 games against the lowly Nats and KC, that 13-8 could possibly turn into 18-8. Which could have folks wondering if the Mets should have been selling at all.

Morning Tom

My initial thought on the Robertson trade.

You successfully trade EXPIRING contracts on players that can help OTHER teams THIS season.

The other team is not going to trade you anyone that would hurt THEIR team during their pennant drive.

What you can get is quality LOW LEVEL PROSPECTS that are beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the herd down there

The two players the Mets got for Robinso are BOTH DOMINATING THE FCL LEAGUE.

THEY ALSO ARE TEENAGERS

This was a great trade for Mets fans that will still be around in 2026 and beyond

Mack, I 100% agree. Just wish they could have delayed the trade until after Sunday’s game. But gotta pounce when you can. I am guessing trading Robertson saved Cohen about $10 million in salary and taxes

Mack Ade said...

Definitely did

Cohen will direct management to get this team in line salary wise in what appears to be a shift of policy to begin protecting and acquiring prospects to beef up the chain

I heard somewhere pitching and defense wins games and I don't think that has changed and has helped that our 2 HOFers have finally started pitching like the back of their baseball cards and Petey has come out of his coma. Now having said all of that do they trade one or both by Tues? Tom should we expect a daily "my life is coming up Rosa" report?

Tom,
The Mets are doing the right thing with the trades. We had to get better at competing in 2024. The core will be back;need reinforcements for the next year.
Now the question is, will someone see Max as the missing piece for their 2023 Worlds Series ring?

Tom Brennan said...

D J, Max still owed an ocean liner full of cash, so if the Mets move him, can get a reasonable replacement with $$ left over.

Gary

I would keep the core intact

Put this season in your rear view mirror

Concentrate trading expiring contracts on beefing up talent in the FCL and St. Lucie Mets

Let Cohen’s checkbook find never year's rotation needs

Tom and DJ

Selling of both.or one of the 44mil contracts will result.in eating at least half the existing monies owed, all of which will be added to Mets bottom line for 2024.

Will not help to get under lux limits if you go after new starters

Yamamoto is reportedly even better than Senga (and much younger). If he is posted as expected, between Eppler's connections and Steve's wallet I think he'll be ours.

Absolutely right, Mack. Might as well keep them and hope for the best.

From a Binghamton fan page writer: Matt Rudick has been on the 7 day injured list since middle of June. He is currently on rehab assignment with the FCL Mets. Also RHP Manuel Alveraz of the Rumble Ponies is also on rehab with Matt..

The Mets need to win at a .661 clip to get to 87 wins and that might not even clinch it. Its simply not something this team has shown any inkling of doing. Outside of their 6 game win streak they have been inconsistent and bad.

Sweeping the Nats would be too little too late. They made the right move. We can pretend we are in contention until we are officially eliminated but the deadline is a few days away and they had to make a decision. Had they won 3-4 more games this season it would be a different story and you could make a solid argument to stay pat.

The truth is this could end up being a major boost to us in the next few years. The Mets have already netted 4 players with possibly many more to come. If they do jettison Verlander and/or max they can sink that money into the new Japanese pitcher.

Ax to Rangers is being reported. No details.

Tom Brennan said...

Max to Rangers, that is.

Tom Brennan said...

Trade Justin, too, and call up Stuart and Tidwell.

The Ruscio kid who looked so good, did they trade him? Never hear about him any more.

Tom Brennan said...

Rudick. He has been hurt for several weeks. Unspecified.

"Even if they can’t get Shohei Ohtani (and Mets people don’t seem especially optimistic about the likelihood of Ohtani leaving the West Coast), there are Julio Urias, Blake Snell, Aaron Nola, Jordan Montgomery, and potentially Eduardo Rodriguez and Marcus Stroman (not a likely target for the Mets)."

Lets not forget the more than a dozen college arms the Mets just drafted. Some of those should be at BNG to start the season or by the end of the season.
