David Peterson Struggled Friday Night As Fight for WC Continues
Mets lose. Can't win them all.
They couldn’t hold that early 2-0 lead that included a lead off HR by Jose Iglesias, and got bludgeoned 12-2. Adam Ottavino, the collapsing Danny Young, and Brazaban got hammered, and the best reliever was position player Eddie Alvarez, who pitched a hitless 9th with just a hit and a K.
Phillies had David Peterson’s number after he had theirs 5 days ago.
DP allowed 8 hits and 5 runs in 3.2 IP.
A loss is a loss, of course, of course.

No Lindor yet, just to be clear. Still hurting.

Atlanta was beaten 4-3 by Miami!
The night before, Miami also scored 4 runs, but lost by 16. That's baseball.

SD faced a “vaunted” White Sox squad, where the White Sox rallied for 2 to tie it at 2-2 in the 9th, but lost in the 10th 3-2.
SD won, handing CWS loss #118.
Arizona also beat the useless Brew-less Brew Crew in their contest.
So it was only a fair night from a Mets playoff positioning perspective.
Gor the Mets, news-wise, the good news only emanated from Syracuse.
A 12-5 win, Dom Hamel tosses 5 innings of 2 run ball for the win in his final season start.
Drew Gilbert had 3 hits, a HR, and 5 RBIs (more below), while Jett Williams had 2 hits, and 2 walks. It seems in this last weekend of Mets baseball that the two hitting lads are rounding into form.
Carlos Cortes added a 2 run shot. The 27 year old, in the Mets system since 2018, has dealt with THREE STINTS on the development list in a previously crowded roster (with departed dudes like Trayce Thompson sucking up early ABs) which prevented daily Cortes starts. A shame. Just 277 ABs in 2024.
If you doubled CC's ABs this season, though, his #s would project to:
554 at bats, 32 HRs, 104 RBIs. How ‘bout that?
Will it someday get him to the big leagues somewhere? Time will tell.
Hayden Senger (2 RBIs) also has been limited by injuries, and other catchers. It did not help that he had a horrendous April (3 for 36).
Since then a solid 36 for 131 (.275). He is also now 27, but as a catcher, if he can hit some, he could reach the majors someday. "He got glove" (14 caught stealing in 39 pilferage attempts).
Lastly:

Great to see Williams and Gilbert finishing well at Syracuse. I would think both could be candidates for the Fall League.

Danny Young can learn a thing or two about pitching from that Alvarez guy.
Young is getting old, Ray. Getting rocked.
I'd like to see Morabito and Jett for sure in the AFL. Gilbert if you are allowed to go twice - think he went there before. Jett can raise his stock with a sizzling AFL.

Alvarez pitching to Alvarez has been a long time dream of mine - I just thought Dario Alvarez would be the pitcher.
I'd be very appreciative to the Marlins if they grab one more from the Bravos this weekend.
Former Met Dario Alvarez was 6-1 as a major leaguer, hasn't pitched professionally since 2018, but heck, he is a year younger than JD Martinez, so why not?
TP, if the Marlins can win one more from the Bravehearts, I will henceforth never refer to them as the Marlenes.

"Francisco Lindor received a facet joint injection in his back on Thursday, a course of treatment team trainers hope will increase his rate of recovery.
A day after receiving the shot, Lindor was feeling well enough to take batting practice swings from the right side of the plate at Citi Field, but not well enough to take additional “baby steps” toward a return.
Team officials remain hopeful Lindor can contribute before the end of this weekend’s series against the Phillies, yet that is far from a guarantee.
The Mets will know more once Lindor... attempts to participate in an even more robust slate of baseball activities on Saturday."

Sucked that the Phillies had to prove that they are still top dog, but I get it. Players like Bryce Harper are part scoundrel, part winner. The Mets used to have players like that. Now, they want choir boys that chase low and away with me on base. How did Dombrowski get fired from Boston, Miami and Detroit anyway? They built a team with hardly any holes.
I think Lindor won’t be well again this year. Backs take a while to feel 100%. Hoping the Mets make the playoffs, I don’t know who I’d rather play in the wildcard round. I would like to avoid the Padres so, I guess that means taking on the Brewers.
like losing Marte in 22' it sucks and there's a good chance we go into Atlanta 1 up or dead even fingers crossed. I also wonder if Mr. Softee would grace us with his presence on the mound and please no more boo boos.
just hope Lindy's injury is not a career thing. We don't need another D Wright issue. Also it would help to get Mr. Softee back soon.
As a Mets fan that wasn’t believing in 2015, I find myself once again doubting. The 2015 team may have had the best ever Mets starting rotation although 1986 would like to discuss that.
But this year, the lineup is full of guys I don’t even want back! What does that say about them? JDM, Bader, Alonso I’m ready to move passed. Before anyone reminds me of Alonso’s 32 homeruns, he is 99th in MLB for FanGraph’s “Clutch” stat, which we knew. I like Alonso, but he has had such a disappointing year…. Kind of reminds me of Conforto’s walk year.

Lindor AND MCNEIL are missing. That's a lot. And, of course, Senga. Remarkable they are where they are. Acuna has far exceeded expectations, but the Mets are playing strong teams from here on out. Too much to ask?
Prior to 1962, it was a 154 game schedule. The Mets would be in the playoffs right now if it was still 154 games.
This is why I feel that David deserves the EOTY for building this team with limited payroll, and Mendy deserves the MOTY for getting the most from everyone on the roster.
That says a lot about the great jon Mendy has done. MOTY?
