Mets
catchers had 48 RBIs last year. They have 10 this year. John Buck is off to a great start. He has taken control of this pitching
staff

Terry Collins said Shaun Marcum has started playing catch. Still a ways away
-is
it my imagine but does baseball players heal slower than, let’s say football or
hockey players? No, they don’t because football and hockey players play through
stiff necks and shit like this. Who extends this process? The player, the team,
or the doctors?
Wally Backman on
Zack Wheeler –
“He is the same spot Matt Harvey was at last year. It’s a matter of
command. I think it’s going to be a matter of consistency. It was the first
game. He was rushing a little bit. He showed signs of just dominating, and then
he’d get a little bit erratic.”
Sorry
for the lack of morning reports the past few days. I had some issues that kept
line. Look for Sunday and Monday mornings to be lacking reports sportically.
Observatons:
-well so much for that shitty
hitting in Grayson Staduim, huh? Kevin Plawecki, Jeff Glenn, Jayce Boyd and Brandon Nimmo are on fire which means
they probably followed by batting tips I told them on Press Day (sic).
Seriously, wouldn’t be nice if we would develop three or four read deal every
day prospects here? I was going to try and schedule interviews with Boyd and
Nimmo tonight and tomorrow, but the Doc has be off my feet for three days.
-the same Latin names are throwing
up the same goose eyes…Ynoa, Montero, Tapia, Mazzoni… wait a minute, that’s an
Italian one, right. Even Syndergarrd got into the action with four scoreless
innings. Folks, you have to trust me on this one… a lot of teams are
sending a lot of scouts to check out these guys.
-the MLB and MiLB sample is still a
very small one so let’s not draw any conclusions until Mat 1st.
Majors wise, I hope you enjoyed playing the Marlins and Padres. It goes uphill
from here.
-Timely hitting. Timely hitting wins
ballgames for marginal teams. Marlon Byrd was
timely hitting. The Mets are 4-2 because of poor defensive decisions and timely
hitting. Oh yeah, and there’s John Buck. Enjoy
this ‘Buckarama’ while I lasts.
-we talked earlier this week about
the Plewecki-d’Arnaud-Maron onslaught in the minors. Now, guess who is leading
the Mets in most of the offensive categories? Blake Friggin Forsythe! Can I get
a catcher?
-I mean, who expected a home run in each of the first seven games of the season. What would this team be doing right now with Justin Upton in the lineup?
-Roy Halladay was jut dreadful in the second inning.
-I mean, seriously, what if John Buck keeps this up? What if he's tied in the league in homers with J-Up going into the all-star break and the Mets are in the race? d-Arnaud is already showing he's past AAA and he's playing away games in California. Can you actually trade Buck that early without telling your team you just don't believe what they are doing this season means anything? I know, it's earl, but WTF?
-Matt Harvey obviously didn't have the great stuff from the beginning. A third-out strikeout to Laynce Nix in the second inning got him back on track.
-we got another starter throwing goose eggs... Savannah's Logan Taylor threw five scoreless innings, striking out five, walking none, and scattering four hits.
-The B-Mets RP Jack Leathersich threw two more scoreless innings (0.00).

On trading Buck - I think trading him won't hurt anyone's feelings. The players understand there is a business side to this and that Buck is on the wrong side of 30, his contract is up at the end of the year, and people are anxious to see d'Arnaud. Spin it as seeing TDA being ready to step right into the mix. As far as a trade being seen as giving up on the year, it all depends on the return. If Sandy can maximize and get a blue-chipper for him it'll be okay....besides, do you really expect to be in the thick of it in June?
Speaking of a tight spot of a catching situation, what do they do with Plawecki? He probably should've started the year in A+ but Maron probably isn't ready for AA yet.
Your comment about other teams scouting the young guns warms my heart. Things are coalescing more and more each day. Lets hope this kids keep it up so Sandy can flip them and win another couple of trades.
It is disheartening that they don't have Upton, considering how little the Braves gave up for him. Hopefully seeing this will spur Sandy into upgrading the OF.
