B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

The B-Mets were first on the scoreboard with two
runs in the bottom of the first, but that was all that Binghamton
would plate in a 4-2 loss to Trenton Friday. Jose Sanchez
was spectacular through five innings before giving up three
runs in the sixth and taking his exit in the frame after 5.2
innings. Sanchez balked twice in the inning, including a balk
that brought in the winning run. Zach McAllister tied a season
high throwing seven innings en route to his second win of the
season. He gave up just one earned run and limited the BMets
to just six hits. Josh Thole continued his tear at the plate
reaching in his first three plate appearances, before striking
out to open the eighth. Thole reached base in eight straight
chances at the plate, going 7-7 with three doubles and a walk
to start the series, the longest such streak for a B-Mets’ hitter
this season. Lucas Duda drove in Binghamton’s only two runs
with a single in the first.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Ryan Coultas will make
his seventh start of the year for Binghamton today in Game 1
of the twinbill. Coultas has been the most consistent starter
this season giving the B-Mets five innings or better in all but
one start this season. In his last go around, Coultas picked up
a no-decision at Waterfront Park against the Thunder May 10
with six strong innings allowing two runs on seven hits. For the
year, he is 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA in 33.2 innings. He is in his
first year as a starting pitcher since transitioning from the field
to the mound in 2008 with St. Lucie (High-A). He was the
Mets’ sixth-round choice in the 2004 draft out of UC-Davis.
Game 2 will feature RHP Tobi Stoner, who came off the disabled
list May 11 to start at New Hampshire. He was incredible
in his return to the B-Mets’ rotation, providing seven shutout
innings, facing two over the minimum en route to a 3-2
win. Stoner joined the B-Mets in the middle of June last season
and clocked 79 innings with a 4-6 record and 4.33 ERA.
He was the New York’s (NL) 16th-round pick out of Davis and
Elkins College (WV).

In the lid-lifter of the doubleheader, Trenton will throw RHP
Ivan Nova. This will be Nova’s first start against Binghamton
this year. He is 2-2 with a 4.13 ERA in five starts spanning
28.1 innings. He took the loss his last time out, May 11, going
five innings and giving up three runs against Portland. Despite
being taken by San Diego in last year’s Rule V draft, Nova was
returned to the Yankees system at the conclusion of Spring
Training.

RHP Jason Stephens will make his first start of the year for the
Thunder in Game 2. He appeared in Thursday’s contest,
throwing an inning, giving up a run on two hits in his debut.
