The Buffalo Bisons, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, today activated INF Ramon Martinez off their disabled list. C Rafael Arroyo has also been promoted to the Bisons from St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League.
The Herd also announced that RHP Tim Redding is scheduled to start on major league rehab on Tuesday, May 5 in Lehigh Valley against the IronPigs.
To make roster room, the Bisons have placed INF Andy Green and C Mike Nickeas on the disabled list.
Martinez has missed the first 21 games this season with a sports hernia injury. The 36-year-old is a veteran of 11 major league seasons and is lifetime .264 hitter with 29 homeruns, 96 doubles and 238RBI in 786 career games. Martinez was originally signed by the Kansas City Royals in 1993 and has been a member of six major league teams, including the 2002 National League champion San Francisco Giants.
Arroyo, 26, is in his sixth season in the Mets minor league system. He has hit .150 (2-20) with five walks in six games with St. Lucie this season. Last year, he hit .312 (17-80) with two homeruns and five RBI in 28 games with Binghamton (AA).
