Sand Gnats outfielder Sean Ratliff has been named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for the week of April 27-May 3, the league office announced today. It is the first Player of the Week honor for Ratliff and the first for a Sand Gnat since 2007. The Oklahoma City, Okla. native crushed Sally League pitching for a .552 average (16-for-29), eight doubles, two home runs, six RBI and 10 runs scored. His slugging percentage for the week was 1.034. In the series versus Asheville, he has yet to be retired at the plate as he has gone 8-for-8 in the first two games. He had three four-hit performances during the week and brought his average up from .257 at the beginning of the week to its current spot at .354, which ties him for eighth in the league with teammate Josh Satin. Ratliff was selected in the fourth round of the 2008 draft out of Stanford University. With the Cardinal, Ratliff was an All-Pac-10 selection during his junior year before being drafted by the Mets. All told, Ratliff earned two All-Pac-10 honors during his three years with the Cardinal. During his junior campaign he led the squad in home runs (20), RBI (65) and slugging percentage (.654). He was tied for the team lead in triples with four. Last year with the Brooklyn Cyclones, Ratliff hit .229 with seven home runs and 22 RBI in 59 games.
