Herd Notes

TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons host the Gwinnett Braves for the second game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). Buffalo took the series opener in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 win in 11 innings. Prior to the series against Gwinnett, the Herd split of a four-game series against the Norfolk Tides. After Friday, the Bisons will travel to Pawtucket for a four-game series with the Red Sox.

WALK-OFF TIMES TWO: The Bisons come into tonight’s game on the back of two consecutive walk-off victories. The Herd defeated Norfolk, 5-3, on Monday night with OF Jesus Feliciano’s two-run home run in the ninth inning. Last night, Gwinnett scored two in the top of the 11th and the Bisons responded with three runs in the bottom half for the 4-3 win. Buffalo was down to their final out with no one on base before OF Angel Pagan eventually hit a two-run game-winning walk-off triple.

STARTING STRONG: Another day, another quality start for the Herd rotation. RHP Dillon Gee allowed just one run on three hits in seven innings last night. Since April 29, Herd starters have posted a 2.16ERA and allowed just 59 hits in 79.0 innings of work. The group has also struck out 58 with 14 walks.

GOOD KNIGHT: RHP Brandon Knight has given the Bisons a quality start in each of his last four games. His last two outings have been the most impressive. He struck out a Bisons’ season-high nine in seven shutout innings on May 3 against Louisville. Last Friday, he worked a team-high eight innings in a 4-1 victory over the Tides. Knight is currently second on the Bisons staff in innings pitched (33.0) and strikeouts (32) behind RHP Dillon Gee.

HEAVEN SENT: OF Angel Pagan’s rehab assignment started in style last night. Pagan saved the game in the ninth inning by throwing a runner out at the plate. He then won the game in the 11th inning with a two-out, two-run walk-off triple. Pagan is recovering from surgery to remove a bone spur in his right elbow back in March.

GLOVE WORK: The Bisons are tied with Lehigh Valley as the top fielding team in the IL (.982 pct.). Buffalo has made a league-low 21 errors.

MEET THE METS: Just like the Bisons, the Mets scored a walk-off victory on Tuesday night. Carlos Beltran drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 4-3 win over the Braves. New York had trailed 3-0 before scoring twice in the eighth inning and one more time in the ninth to force extras. The Mets are hosting Atlanta again this afternoon from Citi Field.
