9/2/10

CUTNPASTE: - Dillon Gee, Mets Draft Anaysis, Nick Evans, Josh Satin... and J.J.

Dillon Gee:

link  - Mets' fans have been aware of Dillon Gee for quite some time. The right-handed starting pitcher has been tossing some hard stuff for a while now. His 4.87 ERA at AAA Buffalo in 26 starts this season might not be impressive, but the guy is a control freak. He has posted a 13-7 record, and in 151.2 innings, he has walked just 36 while striking out 150. When he is on a roll in game, he cruises. This is enough for anyone to be excited to see if his command will carry over to the Major League roster.

Mets Draft Anaysis:

link  – Closest to the Majors: Matt den Dekker - OF - UF. 5th Rnd. $110,000. The Senior draftee improved on his 2009 draft position (16th - PIT) and what he lacks ceiling, he makes up for it in intangibles. He's a great defensive CF, a good baserunner and he has solid average power. Overall: 3rd Round Pick Blake Forsythe - C - TEN was selected a round too early for my taste and Greg's son Cory Vaughn - OF - San Diego State -4th, has raw, potential plus power and speed tools but he too was a reach in the 4th. I liked the Greg Peavey (RHP - Oregon State - 6th) pick but his ceiling is limited. The Mets tried to play it safe and a little bit cheap resulting in a draft full of guys that will have long and productive minor league careers. Grade: D

Nick Evans:

link  - The Evil Player program selected Nick Evans as Wednesday’s Evil Player. Evans is so evil, that the Mets only gave his two major league at bats this season, despite a .300/.371/.540 minor league slash line this season. Maybe now that the truly evil Jeff Francoeur is gone, Evans will get a chance to play more.

Josh Satin:

link  - New York Mets prospect Josh Satin: Satin had a decent year in the Sally League in 2008, then hit .316/.406/.459 in 58 games for High-A St. Lucie earlier this year. An older player at age 25, he does not excite scouts with his tools by any means, but has some pure hitting skills. His Double-A transition has gone smoothly: .319/.409/.489 for Binghamton, with 34 walks and 65 strikeouts in 254 at-bats. His plate discipline and component ratios were unchanged after the promotion, a good marker, and on the year he's hit 38 doubles and 11 homers. Satin is being groomed as a utility player around the infield, spending most of his time at second base but also seeing some action at first base and third. His range afield is poor, but he doesn't make many errors

J.J. Putz:

link  ~ 2010 salary $1M: The Mets had to buyout the final year on Putz contract, which was $1M. After this season they will be completely free of Putz.
