LAST GAME: The B-Mets escaped with a 6-5 win over the Sea


Dogs Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. Manuel Alvarez


stranded the tying run on base twice in throwing 1.2 scoreless


innings for his eighth save of the season. Dylan Owen started


for Binghamton and fell an out short of qualifying for the decision.


The righty permitted two runs (one earned) on three hits


over 4.2 innings. Josh Satin got the B-Mets on the board in the


first inning with a two-out homer to left off starter Alex Wilson.


Binghamton played add on in the second on a Jose Coronado


RBI single and a Jordany Valdespin sac fly. Salomon Manriquez


provided the difference with a three-run homer to left,


which increased the lead to 6-1. Portland made a feverish


comeback in the final three innings, to get within a run, but


Alvarez shut the door. Erik Turgeon was credited with his first


Double-A win with two innings of one-run relief. Manriquez led


all hitters with a 2-4 night with a double, a homer and three


RBI.



STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Eddie Kunz will make his


12th start of the season tonight for the B-Mets. He notched a


win in his last start, August 28 at Reading in Game 1 of the


twin bill. Kunz tossed five innings and permitted two runs on


four hits. He is 7-7 with a 5.14 ERA over 105 innings overall.


The righty is 5-3 with a 4.83 ERA over 11 starts (54 IP).Last


year, Kunz made 40 appearances for Buffalo (AAA) with a 4-5


mark and a 5.02 ERA in 61 innings. He functioned as the BMets


closer in 2008 when he racked up 27 saves. The righty


was taken by the Mets in the supplemental first round (42nd


overall) of the June 2007 draft out of Oregon State.



RHP Blake Maxwell is due to make his seventh turn in the Sea


Dogs rotation tonight. He picked up the win in his last start


August 28 at New Hampshire where he allowed two runs on


five hits over 5.2 innings. Maxwell is 6-0 with a 2.32 ERA over


42.2 innings. He opened the season with Salem (High-A) and


made 24 appearances out of the pen with a 4-1 mark and


2.66 ERA over 44 innings. Maxwell appeared in 32 games (18


starts) for Portland last season and recorded a 7-8 mark and


a 5.32 ERA over 111.2 IP. He was drafted in the 40th round


of the June 2005 draft.



COHOON CALLING THE SHOTS: B-Mets southpaw Mark Cohoon


has been a man possessed in the month of August. Over


five starts, he is 4-0 with a 1.60 ERA in 33.2 innings of work,


dropping his ERA to 4.36. He has won four straight starts


courtesy of four consecutive quality starts.
