Q&A: - African-Americans

Hobie has left a new comment on your post "But That's Just Me: - 2011, Johan, FMart, and Orla...":

Just curious Mack. Looking over the 40-man roster, will Cory Vaughn be the next African-American on the Mets roster?

Thanks for the question Hobie, but the Mets have plenty of...  (turning the page...)  let me see here... (rustling of papers...)  there's Robert Carson, err... no he's not...  (rustle, rustle...) Being serious, it's really depressing to see the lack of African-American ballplayers in the game right now- period!! I know it's been discussed an awful lot over the past few years, but to think that the sport that not only broke the color barrier in sports, but helped ease it out of regular every-day life is no longer by a large portion of our society who, historically, has made up one of THE most fervent fan-bases is still something that MLB needs to work on. The RBI program does an amazing job, but they don't have enough $$ or people- the curse of most worthwhile organizations in today's economy, sad to say.

One can only hope this changes, and Hobie, I SURE hope the Mets will once again be thought of as the true "melting pot" that NY deserves!!!
