Mack’s 25-man: RP Tim Byrdak

Of course, this is an easy one. The dude is already signed.

Tim’s been around, which is just fine for a middle reliever. The 38-yr. old LOOGY has pitched for Baltimore, Detroit, and Houston after coming to the Mets in 2011 (72-G, 2-1, 3.82, 47-K, 37.2-IP, 11.2-K/9). Before that, he spent 11 seasons in the minors, where he went 50-32, 3.64, 1.36. How does this happen? These are good stats.

He pitched in the AAA level ten times, dating back to 1998. This doesn’t make any sense. Was there a hygiene problem here?

This may rank as the 2nd best thing Sandy and Company has done since arriving (#1 – Zack Wheeler). He locked up the LOOGY role early and will return there for the next season. 72 appearances is almost half a season and an ERA under 4 is impressive at that level.

Tim throws a fastball(87-92), slider(81-86), changeup(79-82), curve.

That’s 14 down, 11 to go.

Can we start a petition to get the Mets to carry TWO lefty relievers in 2012?

how about Johan?

If that was all he could manage it would be fine. I just never liked the idea of only 1 lefty in the pen.

Well we have Daniel Ray Herrera who showed at least some decent ability to hold his own in the Bigs

Really doubt they'll go out and get one. Isn't Engin a lefty? Perhaps Lethersich by the break? I know its way early for him, but the second lefty in this bullpen will probably be a league minimum guy. Maybe Lethersich continues his mind boggling numbers. Chances are its Herrara.

Yes Charles Edgin is a lefty and should at least get a ST invite to see if he can compete for the spot but he did start in High-A last yr and would have to skip AAA to get the bigs. Not exactly ideal. Its probably the same case for Lethersich as well.

Hey Mack sending you an interesting question that perhaps you have an answer for in regards to one of our top picks in the minors.
