The Mets are still being aggressive in trade talks, the New York Post’s Joel Sherman said on Twitter earlier this afternoon.
Teams tell Sherman that David Wright is the only player the Mets will not discuss. However, he says, they are having serious discussions with teams about Ike Davis.

I talked about this before, but I've always demanded nearly absurd returns... like David Price and Tim Beckham
The Mets would need to be getting a YOUNG... team controlled SP who is already set for the majors with talent to be an "Ace" (Though not necessarily and "Ace" right now) and a prospect who is fairly advanced at either SS or C.
Ike fills Reyes' shoes as second "face" of franchise. Probably a real bad idea...must be BLOWN AWAY. Like the Ubaldo trade to Cleveland last season.
Matt Cerrone: The Mets are not looking to trade Ike Davis, the New York Post’s Joel Sherman said on Twitter. That was a mistake. Instead, he says they’re shopping Jon Niese.
SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt says a reliable baseball source has told him ‘Davis isn’t going anywhere.’
According to Sherman’s sources, the Mets are looking to bring back a competent starting pitcher, plus a young position player, who could rise to the big leagues at around the same time as Matt Harvey, Zach Wheeler and Jeruys Familia.
Sherman believes Sandy Alderson is approaching teams that have expressed interest in A’s RHP Gio Gonzlaez, but then ask for slightly less.
I think we really need our number three starter. Especially if santana comes back poorly. I really think this is the year Niese takes off...then come 2013 when Harvey and Familia are ready, trade Niese when his value is higher and his salary starts rising. That's worse case scenario for me. I was hoping he'd be our lefty number three or four starter when generation 2k comes calling.
If the Mets could nab Wilin Rosario, another prospect and a replacement pitcher (don't ask me which) I think that would be a pretty solid return on Niese that sets us up to win in 2013 and beyond.
These kind of moves by Sandy remind me that Cashen in the early 80s basically turned Lee Mazilli into Ron Darling and Howard Johnson, through a subsequent trade, by 1985 and Bob Bailor into Sid Fernandez. I'm sure there were plenty who complained about trading a 26 year old face of the franchise Maz for two minor leaguers after the 1981 season.
Just saw a post that apparently the Pirates want Davis and the Mets asked for Starling Marte and Brad Lincoln in return. I don't know what's sillier, the Pirates thinking this is too high a price to pay or the Mets thinking it's a fair return.
