Where The Hell Are All The Pitchers Going to Play? - Mack Ade

Where The Hell Are All The Pitchers Going to Play?

Mack Ade

We did this earlier in the off-season, but it needs updating.

I’ve reduced this to two steps.

One – place the Mets prospect starters and relievers on the proper team at the proper time in their development:

AAA – SP:  Jeurys Familia, Chris Schwinden, Colin McHugh

RP:  Robert Carson, Josh Stinson, Elvin Ramirez

AA –    SP:  Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, Darin Gorski

RP:  Josh Edgin , Michael Powers, Nick Carr

A+        SP:  Cory Mazzoni, Logan Verrett, Tyler Pill

RP:  Jack Leathersich, Hamilton Bennett, Chase Huchingson

A –       SP:  Akeel Morris, Juan Urbina, Domingo Tapia

RP: T.J. Chism, Todd Weldon, Steve Winnick

Okay, we have the four full season teams, three starters and three relievers each.

Good start.

Now, all we need is eight more starters and 16 reliever. That’s a total of 24 pitchers.

Here’s the pool:

Jeremy Hefner, Armondo Rodriguez, Gonzalez Germen, Rafael Montero, Brett Mitchell, Julian Hilario, Andres E.Perez, Tobi Stoner, Scott Moviel, Yohan Almonte, Erik Goeddel, Brian Valenzuela, Zack Dotson, Luis Rengel, Mark Cohoon, Kyle Allen, Taylor Whitenton, Eduardo Aldama, Miller Diaz, Craig Missigman,           Persio Reyes, Jeff Stevens, Adrian Rosario,   Gonzalez Germen, Mark Picca, Chad Sheppard, Carlos Gomez, Martires Arias, Chuck James, Brad Holt, Angel Cuan, Tyson Seng, Jared West, Robert Lake, Nadir Crismatt, Erik Turgeon, Estarlin Morel, Ryan Fraser, Hunter Carnevale, Chasen Bradford, Peter Birdwell, , Jesus Lugo, Eric Beaulac, Jeff Kaplan, Ronny Moria, Mike Hebert, Ernesto Yanez, Luis Cessa, Dylan Owen, Brandon Sage, Adam Kolarek, Hansel Robles, Ken McDonald, Shane Bay, Eric Niesen, John Church, Brant Rustich, Darwin Frias, Rainy Lara, Adam O'Neill, Jack Egbert, Greg Peavey, Carlos Vasquez, Issac Monrroy, Mathew Budgell, Garrett Olsen, Casey Hauptman, Beck Wheeler, Richard Ruff, Jeremy Gould, Miller Diaz, John Gant, Chris Hilliard, Dustin Emmons, Michael Fulmer, Steve Matz, Jeff Walters, Jacob Lugo, Christian Montgomery, Alex Panteliodis, Randy Fontanez, Edioglis Villasmil, Marcos Camarena, Gabriel Ynoa, Alberto Baldonado, Jenrry Mejia (IR), Mitch Houck (IR), Brandon Moore (suspension), James Fuller (IR), Luis Mateo.

As you can see, there is no way in hell all these guys are going to be around.

I don’t know where to begin.

I mean, Dylan Owen aced winter ball, Taylor Whitenton and Greg Peavey earned a slot, and you have to give one to Johnny Pants, right?

Now I have to pick four more starters from the 20+ that are left?

Anybody want to chime in here?

Heck, we have enough arms to field at least one or two more minor league teams.............eh, never mind!

Joking aside, it is sort of a nice problem to have, I guess. But, it makes you wonder how many of those guys are just "filler" types (i.e. not really prospects).

Maybe it is time to cull the herd a bit? Maybe Sandy can get creative and make a trade or two for some parts we don't have (catcher)?

Plus, we have the upcoming draft in June where you know some of the high picks we have accumulated will be filled with more pitchers.

Interesting.....Mike

Oh, the herd will be cut...

the interesting part is there are some decent arms in that herd...

a name I'll throw out to remember...

Christian Montgomery

you know I do the mock draft thing in the past... Montgomery was a 1st round pick in 10 out of the first 10 mock drafts that came out beginning the week after the 2010 draft.

He then had a horrible start to his senior year in high school, was shut down a la Matt Purke, and went on whatever a high school team calls an IR.

I was thriled when the Mets picked him but never expected him to sign. he did on the last day eligible.

Built like a bulldog. Makes Sid Fernandez look like Manute Bol.

The ones with the highest ceilings will have slots. Plus, some talented "pitchers". Peavey, Fulmer, Owen, Goeddel, and Whitenton should and will most likely have spots. I'm curious about Matz, Mateo, and Armando Rodriguez aswell. Montgomery will probably be short season...Fulmer and Matz aswell. Rustich, also, will have a relief role too I would assume.

Armondo pitched in the pen all winter... one inning stints... lights out, by the way

Matz has fell off the face of the earth... canceled all social media

Mateo looks exicitng but it's too soon to tell
