Mack Ade - 8 Players That Should/Could Be Avaiilable at #11

Most draft experts at this point in the game agree that RHPs Mark Appel, Jonathan Gray, Kohl Stewart, and Braden Shipley, catcher Reese McGuire, LHP Trey Ball, third basemen Kris Bryant and Collin Moran, and outfielder Clint Frazier will be gone in the first round. That’s nine quality players off the board, but the good news is there will still be eight more left for, no only the 10^th pick, but the Mets pick at 11^th.

Here are the second level cream of the draft and who, as Sandy Alderson and Paul DePodessa have said in the past few days, will be impossible to pass on. Personally, I live some better than others, but I have no problems with any of them wearing a Mets uniform:

RHP Ryne Stanek – Arkansas (39-22) – The top right hander that will be left in the draft. Started 16 games for the Razorbacks: 10-2, 1.39, 97.1-IP, 79-K, but 41-BB. Projects as a solid SP3 with little flash. Just a damn good pitcher. MLB ready by 2015.

RHP Chris Anderson – Jacksonville (17-38) – Rocketed up the mock drafts early in the ‘season’ but settled back to a mid-range first rounder. Finished the season with 14-starts, 7-5, 2.49, 104.2-IP, 101-K, 27-BB. What’s important to remember is he pitched for a very bad team that gave him little support during the second half of the season.

LHP Sean Manaea – Indiana State (26-25) – A guaranteed top five pick who came down with a mysterious injury that still isn’t explained. All signs currently are he will return to school for his senior year so this could be a wasted pick. Finished the season: 13-starts, 5-4, 1.47, 73.1-IP, 93-K, 27-BB.

1B Dominic Smith – Serra HS (27-5, CA) -  Smith does a little bit of everything. He primarily is a first baseman, but projets as a corner outfielder. He also consistenly hits 92 as a LHP, but his bat is one of the best in high school. Downside is Duda-like speed. 2013 - .493-BA, .635-OBP, 1.35-ERA

1B-3B D.J. Peterson – New Mexico (37-22) – D.J. is one of the few ‘super bats’ in this draft. Scouts have him as a ‘can’t miss’ though they can’t seem to agree where he projects to (1B,3B, corner OF). People close to me has him on first. 2013: .408/.520/.807, 18-HR, 72-RBI. God, we could use a bat like this.

CF Austin Meadows – Grayson HS (15-9, GA) – Here’s the one high school outfielder that I’d be dancing in my office if I heard his name called out when the Mets pick. Played ball near me and local scouts said he has Bryce Harper type potential. I would love to see him playing next to Brandon Nimmo for the rest of the season. 2013: .535-BA, .633-OBP

CF Austin Wilson – Stanford (32-22) – You al know how much I like Wilson, but I would be surprised if te Mets took him at this point in the pre-draft season. I seem to be the only person high on him at this level. Wilson’s ticky-tack injury at the beginning of the season hurt his ranking and he has never recovered from it. Season stats for the 5-tooler: .288/.387/.475, 118-AB, 5-HR, 26-RBI

OF Phillip Ervin – Samford (27-30) – The ‘other’ college outfielder, Ervin has excellent speed and arm strength and projects as a 15-20 home run, 30 stolen base guy who fits best in right field. Would move very quickly through the system.
