Binghamton 5 - Harrishurg 2

Dustin Lawley ripped a three-run homer and Rainy Lara struck out a season-high seven Harrisburg Senators in the Binghamton Mets’ 5-2 victory on Saturday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Lawley also doubled and scored to lead Binghamton to their third win in four games.
After a 60-minute rain delay and a scoreless first inning, the B-Mets got on the board in the second against Harrisburg starter Paolo Espino. The veteran right-hander hit Jayce Boyd to start inning and walked Cory Vaughn. Lawley cashed in by threading a three-run homer over the left-field wall. His second homer of the season gave the B-Mets an early 3-0 lead.

Harrisburg busted out the lumber to trim Binghamton’s lead in the fourth. Matt Skole turned on a 3-2 pitch from Lara, depositing his first home run of the season over the right-field wall. Skole’s solo blast made it a 3-1 game.

Espino rebounded smoothly after Lawley’s home run and retired ten of the final eleven batters he faced. The righty exited after allowing two hits over five innings of work.

Lara put down eight of the next nine Senators he faced following Skole’s round-tripper before running into trouble in the seventh. The righty issued his first walk of the game to Kevin Keyes.

Two batters later, Ricky Hague bounced an RBI double off the right-field wall and ended Lara’s day.

Reliever John Church took over with two outs and Hague on second. Sean Nicol greeted the righty by bouncing a single up the middle. B-Mets centerfielder Kyle Johnson fired a one-hopper to plate to nab Hague, preserving Binghamton’s 3-2 lead.

Binghamton added breathing room with two runs in the eighth against Tyler Herron. Lawley and Travis Taijeron started the inning with back-to-back doubles, putting runners at second and third. Matt Clark delivered a pinch-hit sac fly to left and Wilfredo Tovar bounced an RBI single into right, kicking the B-Mets lead to three.

Jack Leathersich took over in the ninth and worked around a leadoff walk to post a scoreless inning, earning his first save of the season.

Lara (3-1) allowed two runs on four hits over 6-2/3 innings to snap a three-start winless streak. Espino (0-2) was tagged for three runs on a pair of hits over five innings in the loss.

The B-Mets (17-15) shoot for their fifth series win as they wrap up their four-game set against the Senators on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM. RHP Tyler Pill takes the mound against RHP AJ Cole. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show begins at 12:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
