Charleston 10 - Savannah 3

On a Bark in the Park Sunday, the Charleston RiverDogs ran wild, defeating the Savannah Sand Gnats 10-3 thanks to a pair of homeruns by third baseman Miguel Andujar. The Gnats have lost three straight games for the first time during the 2014 season.

The RiverDogs (23-19) scored the game’s first run in the top of the third inning against Savannah starter Chris Flexen on a 1B Mike Ford double. Ford reached base safely in all five of his plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with two doubles, three walks, an RBI and three runs scored.

Andujar’s three run homerun off Flexen in the fifth put the Dogs up 4-0.

Trailing 5-0, the Gnats (28-14) scored their only runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Two walks and a single loaded the bases for 1B Dominic Smith, who drove home two runs with a single through the hole on the right side. The hit snapped the Gnats’ 0-for-20 streak with runners in scoring position in the two games versus Charleston. RF Victor Cruzado followed with an RBI single to right to make the score 5-3.

Andujar hooked a two-run homerun down the leftfield line off reliever Dawrin Frias in the seventh for a 7-3 Charleston lead.

The Dogs added three runs off Savannah closer Robert Coles in the ninth, snapping Coles’ scoreless streak at 18.2 to begin the season.

Third baseman Jeff McNeil was 2-for-3 with a double to extend his hitting streak to 11 straight games.
