5/7/14

May 7, 2014 -- Marlins 1, Mets 0

Wednesday afternoon  Marcell Ozuna  broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 9th inning with a sac fly to center, the Marlins complete a 3 game sweep of the Mets with a 1-0 win. Zach Wheeler and Tim Koehler hooked up in a classic pitching duel.  The Mets were held to just 2 hits (a double by David Wright and a single by Lucas Duda) as they are now scoreless in the last 23 innings. Wheeler had his best outing of the year going 6 innings allowing just 2 hits, 5 walks and struck out 7. Koehler went 8 allowing just 2 hits walking 1 and striking out 5.  In the bottom of the 9th Carlos Torres allowed a single and a walk and a fly to right to make it first and third.  Kyle Farnsworth was called in to try to get out of the jam but gave up the sac fly. Torres takes the loss he falls to 2-1, Steve Cishek got the win he improves to 3-1. The Mets who were 7-3 on the road before this trip go 1-6 and fall to 16-17 on the year and 8-9 on the road. Hopefully some home cooking will agree with the Met offense. Thursday the Mets are off as they travel back to Flushing to host the Phillies this weekend. Friday night Jenrry Mejia (3-1 5.23) goes for the Mets. Robert Hernandez (2-1  4.50) goes for Philadelphia.
