Mets Minor League Report: May 3, 2014

MMLR Player of the Day: St. Lucie RHSP Luis Cessa

On yesterday’s MMLR, The Closer commented about Savannah’s remarkable bull pen and suggested that we give them a name, like the Nasty Gnats. I’d prefer to add a silent G, making them the Gnasty Gnats, but there is a problem with naming a minor league group like that. Good prospects rarely stay at the same level for very long. This group of Gnasty Gnats, with a few promotions, could quickly become the Lights-Out Lucies. And by the start of next season, they could be the Beasts of Binghamton, shortly to become the Vegas Vampires. (They can suck the blood out of any offense.). The real question is will the players who are promoted from short season Brooklyn or Kingsport live up the Gnasty Gnats high standards. So, how about it? Do we christen those kids the Gnasty Gnats?

Las Vegas (20-9) @ Tacoma (14-12) postponed - rain .

The bull pen was much more effective in closing the door, but the horses were already out of the barn.
