MMLR Players of the Day: The Las Vegas 51s offense

Mets farm teams return to their dominant ways, going 4-0 tonight.

Las Vegas (24-10) crushes Salt Lake (13-22) 16-4.

Logan Verrett (W, 2-2) got the W despite getting beaten up: 5.0 IP, 4 R, 10 H, BB, 4 K.
Ryan Reid: 3.0 IP, 0 R, 2 H.
Miguel Socolovich: 1.0 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, K.

The Las Vegas offense mounted a 21 hit, 5 HR attack.
Eric Campbell: 3-4, 2 2B, BB, 3 R.
Andrew Brown: 3-5, HR, 2 BB, 2 RBI, 5 R.
Allan Dykstra: 1-5, HR, BB, 2 RBI, 2 R.
Zach Lutz: 3-5, HR, BB, 5 RBI, 2 R.
Taylor Teagarden: 3-5, HR, BB, 2 RBI, 2 R.
Brandon Allen: 5-6, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R.

Binghamton (16-14) tramples Harrisburg (10-21) 12-6.

Darin Gorski (W, 3-1) won with a quality start: 6.0 IP, 2 R, 7 H, (2 HR) BB, 2 K.
John Church: 1.0 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 2 K.
Jon Velasquez: 1.0 IP, R, 2 H, K.
Chase Bradford: 1.0 IP, R, H.

Matt Reynolds: 2-4, 3B, BB, 2 RBI, 2 R.
Jayce Boyd: 2-3, HR, 2B, 2 BB, 4 RBI, 2 R.
Kevin Plawecki: 2-4, RBI, R.
Travis Taijeron: 1-4, HR, RBI, R.
Darin Gorski: 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, R. (Darin Gorski . . . really?)

St. Lucie (19-15) stops Palm Beach (16-18) squelches 6-1.

Domingo Tapia was pretty solid: 5.0 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 K.
Seth Lugo (W, 2-0) was even better: 3.0 IP, 0 R, H, BB, 3 K.
And Beck Wheeler (S, 4) was perfect: 1.0 IP, 2 K.

Aderlin Rodriguez: 2-3, 2B, RBI, R.
T.J. Rivera just keeps hitting: 2-5. (.389)
Gilbert Gomez is quietly having a fine season: 2-4. (.293)

Savannah (22-9) trips West Verginia (11-22) 5-3.

Of greatest concern, SS Gavin Cecchini left the game after doubling, and then scoring, in the top of the 1st inning. Hoping that the apparent injury is not found to be serious.

Dario Alvarez, not generally regarded as a starter, got his 2nd start of the season. Alvarez, who had not allowed a run in his previous 5 outings (17.1 IP) was finally tagged, but only 1 of the 3 runs he allowed was earned: 2.2 IP, 3 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 3 K. Alvarez was pulled with 2 out in the 3rd inning, after issuing a walk, setting the stage for a string of Gnasty Gnats long relievers.
Darwin Frias: (W, 2-0) 2.1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 3 K.
Tim Peterson: 2.1 IP, 0 R, H, BB, 4 K.
Robert Coles: (S, 6) was perfect in 1.2 IP, striking out 3.

Victor Cruzado: 2-5, HR, RBI, 2 R.
Dominick Smith: 2-4, 2 RBI.
L.J. Mazzilli: 1-3, 2 BB, RBI, R, SB. (Mazzilli’s error, after having been shifted to SS upon Cecchini’s departure, allowed the 2 unearned runs charged to Dario Alvarez.)

I advocated in a blog here for Satin to stay a bit longer. But Lutz, Campbell and Brown all on fire. One should have been recalled to replace Josh. All can play 1B. This team needs functional bats. If this were an AL team, Gorski could be recalled to DH!
Good to see Boyd out of early season coma with a power-laden 10 hits in 5 games.
Outscoring 4 opponents by 22 runs...not bad for a nite's work

"Gnasty Gnats" I see what you did there! ;-)

Thomas, don't forget Dykstra and Brandon Allen as well, who spent some time as the Rays 1B for a bit not too long ago. He went 5-6 last night and has some real pop. Satin does deserve to get some more AB's but guys like Campbell also deserve a chance as well as the ML level and frankly, Campbell provides more versatility for the Mets bench considering he plays some corner OF and 3B.
