St. Lucie 4 - Palm Beach 2

The St. Lucie Mets rallied to beat the Palm Beach Cardinals in front of 2,671 fans at Tradition Field on Thursday.

Aderlin Rodriguez broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI double that scored Cam Maron from first base in the eighth inning. Maikis De La Cruz provided a clutch insurance run with a single to score Rodriguez and make it 4-2.

Beck Wheeler struck out two in a perfect ninth to record his fourth save.

Starters Domingo Tapia of the Mets and Joe Cuda of the Cardinals traded zeroes through the first four innings. Finally the Cardinals broke through in the fifth. Charlie Tilson and Bruce Caldwell singled with two outs and Nick Martini drove them in with a double.

The Mets answered in their half of the fifth. With the bases loaded and one out, Dilson Herrera grounded to third. Bruce Caldwell went home with the ball but threw wide of his catcher Casey Rasmus, allowing Robbie Shields and Phillip Evans to score and tie the game 2-2.

Seth Lugo pitched three scoreless innings after Tapia departed in the fifth. Lugo allowed just one single and a walk in earning his second win of the season. No Cardinal advanced past first base after the fifth inning.

Tapia scattered five hits and two runs in five innings.

Cuda struck out six in the no decision. Both runs scored on him were unearned. In his last start against the Mets on April 24, Cuda gave up eight runs and was pulled after 1 1/3 innings.

Nimmo finally has cooled off...hopefully a short blip in his season.
Hey Mack, if Tapia throws so hard, why does he strike out so few this year? Are they asking him to pitch to contact to reduce walks?
