The Binghamton Mets withstood a late rally from the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and held on to earn a 6-5 win on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Travis Taijeron doubled twice and Kevin Plawecki drove in two runs in Binghamton’s fourth straight win.

Binghamton broke a scoreless game in the third against Fisher Cats starter Matt Boyd. Taijeron started the inning by sending a leadoff double down the left-field line. Wilfredo Tovar brought him home by bouncing a single up the middle off Boyd’s foot for his 18th RBI of the season.

Following a wild pitch that moved Tovar into scoring position, Brian Burgamy lined an RBI single to left to double Binghamton’s lead. Plawecki capped the inning by punching a single to right. Burgamy raced home from second, needing an acrobatic headfirst dive to avoid the tag at the plate.

B-Mets starter Rainy Lara kept the Fisher Cats in check through three scoreless innings. Ryan Schimpf ended the run in the fourth. The slugging second baseman stroked Lara’s 3-1 offering over the right-field fence. Lara settled down after the blast and retired seven of the next eight batters he faced.
Taijeron struck again for the B-Mets to pad their lead in the sixth. With two outs and Jayce Boyd at first, Taijeron smoked a 1-2 pitch from reliever John Anderson off the top of the left-field fence for his second double of the game. Boyd scored from first to give the B-Mets a 4-1 advantage.

Schimpf struck again in the sixth, ending Lara’s cruise with a one-out solo shot inside the right-field foul pole. His blast, the fourth allowed by Lara this season, cut Binghamton’s lead to two.
The B-Mets responded with two more in the seventh off Anderson. After Darrell Ceciliani’s leadoff single, Anderson bounced a pickoff throw to first prompting Ceciliani to dash for second. With the ball still loose, Ceciliani tried for third. Right fielder Matt Newman’s throw to third hit Ceciliani, enabling the B-Mets outfielder to scamper home with Binghamton’s fifth run. Cory Vaughn and Plawecki posted back-to-back two-out doubles to add to the B-Mets lead.

The bottom of the New Hampshire batting order started a rally and chased Lara from the game in the seventh. With runners at the corners on two singles, Peter Mooney stroked an RBI double down the right-field line.

John Church replaced Lara and surrendered a run-producing infield single to Jon Berti. Kenny Wilson followed with an RBI groundout, cutting Binghamton’s lead to one. Church intentionally walked Schimpf before inducing AJ Jimenez to bounce into an inning-ending groundout.

Church returned to pitch a perfect eighth before Cody Satterwhite took the mound in the ninth. The righty struck out two in a perfect inning to earn his first save of the season.

Lara (4-1) matched a season-high with seven strikeouts over 6-1/3 innings to earn the win. Boyd (0-1) surrendered three runs on five hits over five innings in the loss.

The B-Mets (22-16) conclude their final regular season visit to Manchester in 2014 on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM. RHP Tyler Pill makes the start against RHP Casey Lawrence.
