Mets Links and Links from SportSpyder:

As we had yesterday on Mack’s Mets - Mets part of 3 Team Trade Get LHP Joey Lucchesi.  the Padres acquired RHP Joe Musgrove from the Pirates, Pirates get: OF Hudson Head, RHP Drake Fellows, RHP David Bednar and LHP Omar Cruz from Padres, and C Endy Rodriguez from Mets.

Brian Joura Mets360: “Lucchesi throws a two-seamer and when right gets a good number of ground ball outs. His primary offspeed pitch is a changeup and he also mixes in a cutter. Lucchesi's first two years in the majors ('18-'19) he amassed 303 Ks in 293.2 IP. There's definitely talent here and 2020 is something of a mystery. There were no reports immediately available about an injury”

Mike Puma NY Post: Mets may not be finished after trading for Joey Lucchesi. “Lucchesi has minor league options remaining, so even if he didn’t crack the Mets’ roster in spring training he would provide depth at Triple-A Syracuse. He does not become arbitration eligible until next offseason…Still on the lookout for potential starting-rotation depth, the Mets plan to scout a showcase on Tuesday in Miami that features veteran starters Julio Teheran and Anibal Sanchez.”

"Carlos BeltrΓ‘n got fired after 76 days just over a year ago.

Jared Porter has been the Mets GM for 36 days."

This reminds me of a different dark moment in Mets history.

I believe it was in the 1990s or 2000s (John, you may be able to track this down), the Wilpons had the genius idea to hire two "super-scouts". One of those hired was a guy named Bill Singer.

A few days after the hiring, Singer was at a baseball executives meeting somewhere. He was at the hotel bar, when he ran into Kim Ng (I believe she was with the Dodgers or MLB at the time). Singer, who had had too much to drink, decided it would be funny to mock Ng's Chinese heritage by pretending to be Chinese. He was fired the next day, probably less than a week after being hired.

Sad story, for sure......primarily for the reporter that Jared was harassing.

Having done background checks and hiring for quite a few years in my previous life, I find it baffling that this hasn't come
out before today. Heck, he worked for the Cubs, the Diamondbacks and most recently the Mets and nada.

An even better question is why did ESPN sit on the story until now? I understand that the victim didn't want to make a big deal out of the issue, which explains the original non-report. BUT, why didn't someone from ESPN approach Sandy in the run up to Jared's hiring? It was only five or six weeks ago, right?

My guess is that ESPN cared more about "maxing out" this story then they did anything else, to include the victim.

Shame on Jared Porter and shame on ESPN.

Great point Mike. Who knows the thinking behind it but it sure makes you wonder.

Bob - I remember the Bill Singer fiasco. Crazy now - crazy then. Baseball is a relatively small community. Very possible no one likes to rat on others for fear they will be rated out. All teams can do is to discipline respective employees when these things happen to prevent them from happening again.
