Scouting Report - OF - Jonathan Santucci

Jonathan Santucci

OF          6-2        190        Phillips Academy (MA)

10-1-20  -  BA -

Jonathan Santucci, OF/LHP, Massachusetts (Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass.)

A Duke commit, Santucci showed promising two-way potential even if it didn't show in the results. Santucci went 0-for-2 with two walks, two strikeouts and was hit by two pitches. He took the mound and gave up five runs over two innings, with two strikeouts, two walks and five hits allowed against 13 batters. But Santucci is one of the top hitters in the Northeast and took one of the better BPs there, with power that's been trending up over the past year and room on his 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame to grow into more. A fringe-average runner, Santucci has a strong arm that should fit in right field. On the mound, Santucci threw a fastball that sat at 88-92 mph and touched 93 once, with the physical projection for more, and used an effective upper-70s breaking ball with three-quarters action that was ahead of his low-80s changeup.

Jonathan Santucci is a 2021 OF/LHP/1B with a 6-2 190 lb. frame from Leominster, MA who attends Phillips Academy. Outstanding athletic build with good present strength and room for more. Left handed hitter, hits from a spread stance at the plate, pretty static start to his swing, has quick hands and creates barrel whip and bat speed, well balanced approach with the ability to drive the ball hard to all fields. 6.98 runner, has nice footwork in the outfield, works through the ball well, arm is loose and easy with carry on his throws, polished outfielder with right field tools and skills. Also pitched, easy tempo and rhythm to his delivery, short stride out front, extended 3/4's release. Fastball topped out at 89 mph with some life, gets short tilt to his slider and some fade on his change up. Some two-way potential at the next level.

3/11/20 - 6-foot-2, 190-pound, strong, physical athletic frame. Well proportioned athlete, showing advanced strength. A left-handed pitcher, the delivery has tempo and timing, builds momentum down the mound. The lift is athletic smooth, stays over the backside and rubber, landing inline with a longer stride. The arm action is super clean, working with minimal effort from a natural 3/4 slot. The arm is electric, fastball explodes out of the hand at 87-88  mph and touched 90 mph. The 2-seamer has late action, needs to control it a bit more, but runs a ton. The slider is a weapon, with slurvy break to it, a legit out pitch, clocked at 75-77 mph, depth, a swing and miss offering. Showed a true turn me over changeup, will need added feel for it, clocked at 78-80 mph,  probably hasn't  had to use it often. Potential to be a draft pick.

Mack's spin -

I consider Santucci as a fringe player that needs more time under his belt.

I would advise him to go to college.

Still, someone will probably draft him on Day 3.

JD Davis throws 92 also, and has a breaking ball. Don’t know if his pitches have the movement...
