A product out of SoCal powerhouse high school Harvard-Westlake, Bergin made an immediate impact with UCLA as a freshman in 2019 when he started 15 games and posted a 4.43 ERA over 67 innings. He got off to an even better start in 2020, posting a 1.27 ERA over four starts and 21.1 innings, while striking out 27 batters and walking seven. Over his career at UCLA, Bergin has posted a 3.67 ERA with a 10.5 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9. Bergin’s low-90s fastball has good natural movement and he pairs that pitch with a solid, 79-82 mph breaking ball and changeup. While he does have a solid 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame, Bergin’s delivery is stiff and his arm action has length in the back with inverted action that could raise concern for some evaluators.

3/4s arm action with deception, Bergin pitches comfortably at 90-92 bumping 94. Best secondary is a low 80s slider with vertical tilt and slight hMov; a 55 offering. Changeup is a mid 80s pitch with with decent arm action and a little fade. Could use some more separation. 45 pitch now.

He needs a repeat of that dominant stat line to insure him being a first day pick.
