Fastball has a ton of ride. Generally 91-94 touching 96. Plus extension allows the perceived velocity to jump on hitters. Big spin breaking stuff is still raw, but with better efficiency, could develop some plus offerings. Hamel has some of the better pitch data in the class and that will certainly appeal to model organizations. If the fastball more routinely sits 94-95 in 2021, Hamel could be a Top 50 talent in the class.
Hamel might be the biggest steal in the ’21 draft from an analytic standpoint. The Dallas Baptist right hander has arguably the best spin rates across his repertoire of all pitchers eligible for the ’21 draft.
He hits the mark with his slider and curve both approaching 3000 rpm (elite), and his fastball is a solid 93–96. That fastball has possibly the best vertical movement in the draft, at 2500 rpm which is also elite. His extension is a solid 6.5 feet, resulting in a very good vertical approach angle, release height, and an even quicker feel on the heater. He is very efficient with his fastball, and with elite break on the curve and slider, he could easily become a first round pick with a quality 2021 season.
Mechanically he is very smooth, though I feel he could still get a little more from his backside coming forward post leg drive and front foot plant (+1–2 mph are definitely in him). Hammel carries himself with a swagger on the rubber, something you want to see out of your pitchers.
Teams in need of arms in the 2nd round should look to snatch him up, as the metrics point towards him projecting out, and Dallas Baptist has a reputation of developing its players very well.

2020 DRAFT:- Hamel has a strong, athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds. He pitches with an up-tempo delivery, regular effort, landing slightly closed and coming through a high three-quarter slot with average arm speed. He strides long down the mound, getting good drive out of his lower half. His fastball ranges from 91-94 mph with some arm-side run and he holds his velo well into the game. His go-to secondary pitch is a low-80s slider. It's an above average pitch. Racked up swings and misses on fastball and slider all game. Also mixes in an occasional curveball with sharp 10/4 break at 73-74. It's a fringy pitch, but he has feel for it and can throw it for strikes just to keep it in hitters’ minds. He also showed a changeup in warm-ups, but did not throw it in the game. For the 2020 season, Hamel finished with 27 strikeouts in 19.2 IP.�Due to limited looks on the JC transfer from Yavapai, AZ, Hamel was not seen by many cross-checkers during the four-week college season, and as a result, is undervalued heading into this June draft by many clubs.
