It was so good to see Mauricio playing ball and working the craft - and hitting well.

It should only get him to the big leagues sooner.

David Rodriguez got squeezed on playing time, but after raking in winter ball last year, he seems to be raking again there this year. I wonder if he has a realistic shot of overtaking Tomas Nido for the Mets' back up catcher role?

Tom - I have been a big fan of D-Rod for a number of years now. He looked good in the games I saw him in Binghamton and Syracuse last year as well.

I think Nido is a strong non-tender candidate. Same with Mazeika (better hotter than defender). Rule 5 catchers Nick Meyer and Hayden Senger are both strong defenders like Nido. Mets may choose to let Nido go and protect one or both of them.
