The Mets have 4 hitters in the AFL:
Brett Baty, Hayden Senger, Wilmer Reyes, and Carlos Cortes.
Are they hitting above or below standard? You be the judge.
All play for the Salt River Rafters, the lowest scoring team in the AFL, at 4.5 runs per game.
The other 5 teams are averaging 6.7 runs per game.
The other 5 teams are averaging a .271/.378/.431 slash line.
The other 5 teams have averaged 24 HRs and 148 runs over 22 games.
Our 4 lads have done the following:
191 at bats, .229, 44 hits, 9 doubles, 3 triples, 1 HR, 27 runs, 17 RBIs, 32 walks, and 58 Ks.
Their team has 12 HRs, well below the leagues other squads, but they have contributed only 1 of the 12 so far.
It appears they are well below standard in average and in power and in run production.
But you decide. I am not judgmental. I just report the facts.

This article does not cover other areas of off-season ball, but Ronny Mauricio is hitting .351 so far, with a couple of dingers. Keep it up, Ro Mo. For those who track such things, he turns 21 right around opening day in 2022 in April. I have a funny feeling he will be major league ready by the time he turns 22 in April 2023.

Mack, Ronny does seem to be "walking" in Amed Rosario's footsteps in that regard.
He strikes me as a switch hitting version of Rosario, but with more power.
That said, it is something he needs to start addressing. Some guys walk a lot but can't hit. Some hit but don't walk.
Big league hitters do both, hitting and walking.
One who does, Michael Conforto, is walking...away.
Baty surprises me. Not so much the others.

This is how I rank the field players at current.
1. Mark Vientos (3B). Good power factor, quick bat, quick learner, will grow into his 6'4" frame soon. Hopefully has a sincere shot at third base (let's hope) in 2022. At AA and AAA in 2021, Mark produced solid combined numbers of .281 BA/25 HR's/.352 OBP. To me, he's exactly what the NYM need in 2022. Team gets younger and better all in one.
2. Francisco Alvarez (C). Just a natural athlete. Ditto on the power and quick bat thing. Just a matter of more game action for him behind the dish really. He could be up in orange and blue this season, I think. Has only played A ball, but the scouts all rave about him endlessly. Absolutely nothing to lose right now for this team to bring him to ST, because they have no other solid MiLB homegrown at the catcher position anywhere close in sight. Fans want to see him. If the Mets decide to go out and get a new big name/big bat catcher this off season from another team via trade or through free agency, it's kind of an unwise move I think since the position is clearly Alvarez's once he's ready. Personally, I bring him into ST camp this year just to gauge him and see where he is at with tougher pitching.
3. Khalil Lee. Has multiple skill talent capability, is young, and will only improve with more game time in MLB. With the team replacing Michael Conforto in RF, I personally think that Khalil Lee, Jake Mangum, Ronnie Mauricio and the addition of Starling Marte would be more than enough to do so. I'd forget about Kris Bryant (3B/OF) completely for these reasons: A. Kris is 30 in January 2022. So its another $20.0+ mill contract for an older player really seeking a longer term contract most likely. Good luck with that because these seldom work out real well here. B. Kris does hit homeruns well, but he is yet another .260 BA player and we have plenty of these guys here already. I just don't feel that homerun hitting is so bad here without him, and soon with the additions of Vientos, Mauricio, and Alvarez this will only improve.
The Mets had "ONE" batting average player (.300+) in CF Brandon Nimmo, and having only "ONE" is like the worst that I have ever seen here as a NYM fan ever.
The Mets cannot keep trying to "fit batters" into the two slot behind Brandon who are not two batters, especially if they are not able to get on base, get sufficient base hits and walks.
NYM's fans always want a batting lineup of eight homerun hitters in it each and every off season. I understand this, but do politely disagree. They have 4-5 guys here already slated to start in the field in 2022 that have ample homerun capability. It's more getting people on base ahead of them.
4. Ronnie Mauricio. Evidently one of the best young Mets AFL batters so far, and at age 21. Problem for him is obviously being blocked at the SS position, but it shouldn't at all be crippling for Ronnie since he has enough athletic ability to be moved to another position.
Between Ronnie Mauricio, Mark Vientos, and Brett Baty, I think that at least 3B is covered for quite sometime to come. But don't rule out a couple of these talented players for an outfield assignment as well.
5. Wilmer Reyes. 23 year old A Ball player, but in his 5 seasons he has accumulated a decent .281 BA/.332 OBP/39 SB. At worst case scenario, he should make the team in the future as a very reliable utility player.
What about the MiLB pitchers that should be in 2022 camp, you ask.
1. LEFTY! Josh Walker 9-4/3.73 ERA/1.02 WHIP 2. Adam Oller (R) 9-4/3.45/1.17 WHIP
Who would I like added in here this off season?
1. LSP Carlos Rodon. Reasoning: He's a LEFTY starter and they don't grow here anymore. Low salary at current. In 2021...13-5/2.37/185 strikeouts in just 132 innings/ .95 "Jake like" WHIP. Overall, better than Robbie Ray. Carlos is 28 years old and holds a 42-38 career won/lost. I just think that the NYM have never replaced Zach Wheeler from 2 seasons ago aptly and no one in 2021 starting could "hold" that slot in the rotation. I like Rodon better than Robbie Ray and Marcus Stroman together.
2. Starling Marte. Despite being 33 years old and being in excellent shape habitually, he'd bring this 2022 NYM team speed, a .289 career BA, a .310 BA and with 47 STOLEN BASES in 2021. (Stolen bases people! You remember them from Mookie Wilson era if you're old enough, that is.) He doesn't hit 30 HR's a season, but he is a more complete player than we have seen in RF in quite sometime.
3. Bartolo Colon. Not so much to pitch, but to keep the Mets players together and light hearted enough to have some serious fun out there playing this crazy game. Fun can = WINS, and we have seen that here. Bart's a 247 wins/188 loss career starter and came very close to being a MLB HOF. He's been there and done that. I just miss the guy, he was such a fun member of this team not so long ago, and other NYM fans I know miss him as well. Cannot hurt. Maybe make him the new bullpen or first base coach, if one may be possibly needed at current. Later on, maybe an assistant to Hugh Hefner.
4. One more lefty starter not named Steven Matz (in a package deal that could maybe also include MiLB players back as well) This team does have a few players that definitely need trading now. Do they ever!
