The Mets' catchers in 2021 ranked 29th in OPS (.568, just 3 points above the bottom) and last in RBIs, with 50.
The median MLB team's catchers had 73 RBIs and .710 OPS.
The top teams had 97 RBIs and .829 OPS from their catcher spot.
Considering the Mets want to be a 2022 championship contender, and under the theory that in order to finish first, it helps to not be ranked last, what, if anything, would you do to improve that?

The Mets are stuck with their current starter until Alvy graduates in late 2023 or opening day 2024.
Nido will not help your OPS.
I would go defense first for a backup or stay with Nido.
Have to commit the future to Alvarez and live with this decision.
Might Yan Gomes fit the bill? Remember, Cohenomics allows you to acquire a guy like Gomes, even if a two year deal (I have no idea what Gomes expects) and trading him or McCann at the end of 2022.
I’d also consider Gary Sanchez in a one year deal if non-tendered. More bat, less D than Nido. I’m OK with that. We need a bruising offense to back up Jake and Max and get them Ws. Cohenomics allows for the extra pay. Trade Nido to a more traditional, low budget team.
Wow...this is a tough one. Really didn't know their OPS was actually that bad.
We are really stuck this year. Nido, although decent defensively, really just can't hit. That change in batting stance did nothing to help. Just go back to original stance, it can't get any worse.
We basically have to hope both catchers improve slightly this season and hang on until Alverez arrives.
Not to be a Debbie Downer but it seems that Alverez is not that good defensively...we have to hope he doesn't turn into another Sanchez. That is why he shouldn't be rushed.
With all this money floating around why not overpay on a 1 or 2 year contract for a decent catcher.
Just my 2 cents.

Please no Gary Sanchez....he has to be the worst defensive catcher in baseball. (except his arm ) This guy is fat and lazy.
Can you imagine Scherzer or DeGrom throwing to him. I can't.
The first pass ball Scherzer will choke him.

Mack, pitchers’ love counts for a lot. And, in fairness to Nido, he had a hand injury.
Jerry Grote transformed himself into an adequate hitter. Nido s career will be long if he can do the same.
That said, I fully expect Alvarez to be ready OD 2023, when it will then be Alvarez and McCann.

I know the pitchers love to throw to him. Thats why they probably will go with what they have and hope for some improvement.

Gary, yes, like Phil Evans. Both were low ABs. Most better hitters get mid-season promotions.
