13 games played into this highly interesting season, Eduardo Escobar, a two year, $20 million signing, had a terrific slash line of .318/.464/.591. 14 for 44 with 12 walks.
Boy, after hitting .253 with 28 HRs and 90 RBIs last year, the Mets sure seemed to have made a great signing in the now 33 years, 4 months old Escobar.
Since then, however, in 67 additional games, Double E has played like Double F:
He is 52 for 262 (.198) with just 12 walks over those 67 games. He may have stopped walking, but many fans want him to take a walk.
What the heck happened to him?
Is he redeemable on the Mets?
Or does he have to go back to his previous team, Arizona, to thrive again?
Would it help if Lindor choked him for a few seconds, to change his focus?
Or is it just that NL East pitching is so much better than Lindor, for one, encountered previously (.285 for Cleveland, .236 as a Met)?

Hey, trade him for Wilmer Flores. No, not the former Met, but his younger brother of the same name, who has pitched very well in Phillies AA this year, including against Binghamton Tuesday night.

It is in his head now, so it is going to be very difficult to fix. He took public accountability for his lack of hitting, which is noble but it just shows how much he is thinking about it. In last night's game, he swung and missed, then stepped out and looked at the ground with obvious frustration, as if to say, "Why can't I hit anymore?" He has lost confidence, and without it things won't get better. He needs time off, or maybe even time in AAA to get it back. I agree with Mack - play Guillorme who will give you the D plus a better bat. EE needs a reset.
I don’t think Eduardo has options. Maybe the ASB will reset him…or he suddenly got old like Jay Bruce and Todd Frazier did. Go with Luis.
I think, even without options, that he can go to the minors if he consents to it. I'm pretty sure that's how Cano went to AAA earlier this year.
Prime years for a baseball player are 28-32. When you sign 3 free agents past their prime, some drop off is expected. The Mets are suffering from years of poor drafts and trading away what few good prospects they had. We are an old team with very few top prospects other than Alvarez. Basically our top 4 prospects are all DH types who strike out a lot. We have no pitching prospects coming up in the next 2 years. The Lindor trade was worse than the Cano trade. Instead of waiting for the best crop of SS free agents they jumped the gun and traded 4 players for someone they could have gotten as a free agent in a few months. It’s time to end the AldersonEppier years and get a world class GM. Uncle Steve’s money only goes so far. We better have a great draft
Are you serously blaming Eppler for what you see as "years of poor drafts"? How many of those drafts have taken place under Eppler?

Jjgmdpc, interesting perspective. I do like Epperson so far, but his effectiveness or lack thereof will take longer to determine.
