PRESTO! The Mets’ big lead has all but evaporated.
Why?
Well, the Braves have been blistering hot, so there’s that.
But the Mets?
It’s not the starters, not the pen…
It’s the hitting, stupid!
Every year, without fail, I look at Mets’ hitting stats for the failures.
The list is always large.
Coincidentally, perhaps, the Mets miss the playoffs a lot.
It’s the hitting, stupid!
Nine dudes (Davis, Smith, Plummer, McCann, Cano, Mazeika, Inciartr, Jankowski, Nido) have 756 at bats, while hitting .202, 9 HRs.
Awful.
Escobar has 11 HRs and 40 RBIS in 338 at bats, but is hitting .219 with a failing .273 OBP, and just .200 with RISP.
Awful.
Everyone else has hit great.
Too many have, though, hit awfully.
In past years, I have called it DRECK.
Again, lots of dreck in 2022. 1,100 at bats’ worth of dreck.
35% of the Mets’ at bats worth of dreck.
What to do?
Get hitting hitters.
Vogelbach for instance.
He can hit righties. 900 career ABs, 55 HR, 136 RBI, .358 OBP. He is an upgrade. Upgrade. Replace dreck.
Each Dreck hitter is like a hole in the hull of the Titanic.
Enough holes?
Glug, Glug, Glug.

Hopefully last night will begin the return of our offense.
We will need it tomorrow and Wednesday.
We can hope. Vogelbach is, as I’ve said, an upgrade.
