I touched on this on my comment feed on my post yesterday.
The Mets got a huge stud power bat at 1.11, but, in my opinion should have gone all starters for the next four rounds.
Starters are the most thin position in the chain and quality bats were, as said they would, were gone early.
The Mets made a big mistake not drafting Dylan Lesko at 1.14. Mark my word. He will be the Lucas Giolito of this draft.
I am thrilled at the Blade Tidwell pick in the second round. He must have serious bonus demands. I and most draft nerds had him as an early first rounder.
But instead of the Nick Morabito pick in the 2nd , they could have chosen pitchers like Nolan McClean, Nate Savjno, or Ben Joyce.
Brandon Sproat was a nice pick in the 3rd, but they could have picks Henry Williams, Bryce Hubbart, Tristan Vrieling, or Jonathan Cannon.
I know the Mets did far more research on this than I did, but, I’m just saying…

The Mets 18th round pick, the Mets chose 4-year junior, 6-2/215, RHP, Chris Santiago, out of St. Mary’s College (CA).
Santiago pitched in 16 games (1-ST) posting a stat line of 1-3, 4.50, 0.95, 20-IP, 20-K.
In the 19th round, the Mets chose 6-4, HS senior, SS Jackson Lovich, out of Blue Valley West HS (KS).
Lovich, who finished his senior year at Blue Valley West High School by winning the Kansas 6A state title this spring, took home the Kansas Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year award and was a finalist for the national Gatorade Player of the Year.
The 6-foot-4 shortstop has hit .241 for eight extra-base hits and 13 RBI in his 26 games for the Renegades this summer.
And with their last pick, the 20th, the Mets chose 6-0, 4-year junior, LHP Eli Ankeney, out of Grand Canyon University (41-21).
Eli was strictly a reliever. In 29-appearances, he went 3-3, 2.68, 1.02, 40.1-IP, 61-K

BPJ - 2023 MLB Draft: 10 College Players to Know
Dylan Crews, OF, LSU
Crews was one of the top prep players in the 2020 draft class before opting out of the draft. Now three years later, Crews is the favorite to go first overall in the 2023 MLB draft. Crews is the complete package.
He has a powerful right-handed swing that produces elite exit velocities and uses the entire field. He hits for average and power while possessing respectable plate discipline.
Crews has the skillset to remain in center field. He has above-average speed and arm strength. He also has quality instincts that allow him to make all the necessary plays in the field.
Crews has hit .356 with 27 doubles, 40 home runs and 114 RBIs in 495 at-bats in his first two years at LSU. He has tallied 100 strikeouts and 81 walks. The 6-foot, 203-pound outfielder has five-tool potential with the ability to move through a minor-league system quickly.

Always great stuff and loved the article on Gary Brown. You always have stuff you can't find elsewhere and it's appreciated. Lastest Soto trade I saw was Alvarez, Baty, Vientos and Allen with MeGill the major leaguer and the Corbin contract and I might do that one because the others I've seen have been insane. What are your thought's?

I just finished writing my lead for tomorrow about the Soto development.
Drafts are always wait and see. But I like the overall reports on Mets picks. Couldn't resist the monster bat at 11. Then grabbed hit tool speed guys and a few arms that are more age 18-20 instead of usual age 21+ guys. Mets have actual money and player development reso8ces now in minors.
Mack, I realize that you and I had the same complaint on Draft Day, but I’m willing to give Williams an open mind and here’s why: Law has repeatedly written how stud HS pitchers don’t work out like you hope they will. Every once in a while, a Gooden, Giolito, or Beckett comes out, but can you really chase that? I remember when the fans were furious that the Mets drafted Nimmo and not Jose Fernandez (like the fans knew), but Fernandez said in an interview that he told the Mets rep that he would go to college if they drafted him because he wanted to play for the Cuban community in Miami. So, what would you have done?
It’s possible Lesko said he didn’t like New York, or it may be that they were spooked after seeing JT Ginn not discover his stuff after TJ surgery, or possibly the owner said don’t take a hurt pitcher because we will just get hammered on ‘so why didn’t you keep Rocker?’ We will never know, but Williams is a good player by all standards and Taneous said before the draft that he wasn’t touching the hurt pitchers and so he kept his word.
But, for everyone that asks why the Mets gave up a guy that got drafted #3, I would say that Perada isn’t a Met if that didn’t happen and I do prefer Perada! So, it very much worked out. Let’s give our guys some credit. They nailed it last year with the arms they took, let’s see about this year.
P.S.: I just looked up Ginn, who I was all huffy about when they traded him: For AA Tulsa, 16 innings, 23 K’s, 8 BB’s, 6.46 ERA. Only 16 innings so far? Oh oh…

Where is Vientos?
I see maybe 3 or 4 RED players out of this draft and that would awesome and a draft for the ages. So we have a Jet and my mind goes to West Side Story with opening song "Here comes the Jets yeah and their gonna beat" well you get the rest now we just hope he's another Lenny but w/o the crazy. I would love to have a guy at leadoff who can steals bases so Mack do we really have any now or have to wait for the Jetster.

“The Mets had an extra first-round pick this year after they declined to sign Kumar Rocker last year, and used that selection to take Georgia Tech catcher Kevin Parada (1), my pick for the Golden Spikes Award this year. He’s a bat-first catcher, hitting .361/.453/.709 this year with almost as many homers (26) as strikeouts (32). It’s an unusual start, with the bat slung over his right shoulder, but he gets it to the zone on time and makes very loud contact. He’s a fringy defender, with some scouts questioning whether he can stay there, but I think he will and the bat will quiet a lot of those concerns anyway. Three picks later, they took fun-sized Texas high school shortstop Jett Williams (1), who has a clean, efficient swing and rarely swung and missed anywhere as an amateur. He’s an above-average runner who’ll probably move to second base or center in the long run. Despite his size (5-8), he should get to average or better power as he fills out.“

Gus, everyone talks about Alvarez but forgets about Vientos, so you’re skipping him accidentally makes complete sense.
